Skin, An Apothecary: Cult beauty brand based in Dayton

Skin, an Apothecary has been featured in O Magazine, receives close to five-star reviews on Birchbox, a popular beauty site. Its products are lifetime favorites of celebs and beauty junkies all over the globe. It’s also based right here in Dayton.

Iris Goldflies brought the business to Dayton from Colorado, and all of those beautiful jars full of amazing skincare are produced and shipped from their headquarters on Wayne Avenue. Since they don't have a storefront, the brand is sold in beauty boutiques all over the country, as well as on their website.

When asked what she loves about operating her business from Dayton, Iris explained that its familiarity and the success of many of her other family members' local businesses is what makes it appealing.

So about that cult beauty status – what’s the big deal? To be honest, Skin, an Apothecary has something for anyone. When discussing her line of perfect aroma blends, Iris says she tries to have something everyone can enjoy.

“Not everyone likes a floral or a sweet, for example, so I just try to hit on something for everyone,” she said. “I also try really hard to try true, real, pretty oils. Nothing over the top or too fragrant."

Fan favorites include Crema, a sweet cream; Red Orchid, a tropical yet light floral; and Aquamarine, a clean scent that takes you straight to summer sun and lounging by the pool.

One product that just about every Skin, an Apothecary enthusiast has on her shelf is the Soy Body Whip. This light-yet-creamy lotion lasts for hours and one tub will last you a long time. O Magazine featured its French Hair Paste, a moisturizing treatment utilizing grape seed oil that can be used daily or just as needed to help keep your hair healthy.

Suds is another favorite, especially for people who prefer to minimize their beauty routine: it can be used as a body wash, shampoo, bubble bath and shave cream, making it perfect for travelers and anyone who doesn't have a lot of room for tons of products in their shower. Skin, an Apothecary products strike that perfect balance of luxury, highly gift-able skincare that you could actually use in your daily beauty routine.
