Huber Heights bakery to close

HUBER HEIGHTS — Hometown favorite Granny C’s Bakery, 5115 Old Troy Pike., will close permanently on Aug. 30.

Store manager Sarah Taubert said that after nearly six years in business, finances just made it prohibitive to continue.

“We’re losing money every year,” she said. “We have refused to compromise the quality of the product we’re giving to our customers, and we have always refused to only pay our employees minimum wage. But now, the financial outlook is not good.”

Taubert, whose mother, Rebecca McDaniel, started Granny C's Bakery in the former Patty-Cakes location in February 2010, said that the bakery will close this Sunday at 2 p.m. They have set up a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign to help raise $75,000 to pay for some final bills, and will continue to fill orders throughout the weekend.

Granny C’s was well-known for having delicious strawberry creme-filled doughnuts among many doughnut, cake and bread options, having the convenient drive-thru window and for accepting EBT, or food stamps, along with traditional payment options.

Taubert said that she will likely continue baking for friends and family out of her home, and welcomed former customers to contact her for orders.

“Unfortunately, I can’t bring the fryer with me,” she said.

A post on Granny C's Facebook page Tuesday thanked their customers for years of loyalty.

“We took great pride in our business and made many great friends and memories along the way. Thank you all so much for your support and your friendship,” the post reads.
