Local Walmart store to add FREE grocery pick-up during $350K remodel

A local Walmart store will undergo a remodel, which will allow the store to offer online grocery pick-up services.

Walmart will add online grocery pick-up services to its store located at 8800 Kingsridge Drive in Miami Twp. near the Dayton Mall. The store will also undergo a major interior remodel, according to an application for permit submitted to the Montgomery County building regulations division. The estimated market value of the remodel is $350,000, according to the application.

A spokeswoman for Walmart told this news organization that the chain is remodeling hundreds of stores across the country. The remodel will include renovating specific parking spots for grocery pick-up services. The service could be offered, tentatively, as soon as this summer.

Customers order their purchases online, and pick up the order at the store for no extra fee. Customers can plug in their zip code to see if their stores are eligible for pick up.

The retailer is also testing out delivery concepts, where employees hand deliver orders to customers' doorsteps. Walmart said once the employees are finished with their store shift, they can pick up the packages from the backroom, load them into their vehicle and drop them off on their way home.

Walmart also began testing grocery delivery through crowd-sourced services like Uber in 2016. Now, the chain retailer is expanding its grocery delivery pilot in two more markets — Orlando, Fla. and Dallas, Texas.
