New pizza, donuts carry-out planned for Clayton

A publicly traded carry-out and convenience store chain focused on food made from scratch is planning a new store in Clayton, according to an application to build a new building.

Casey’s General Stores Inc., an Ankeny, Iowa-based company (NASDAQ: CASY), applied to Montgomery County to build a store at 6703 Salem Ave., near the intersection with North Union Road, in Clayton. The site would be its fourth planned for the Dayton region and perhaps its sixth overall in Ohio.

The estimated market value of the completed project is put at $2.75 million in the application. The store’s planned size is put at 4,817 square feet.

The company focuses on pizzas, subs, burgers and other offerings made from scratch. Other company locations generally offer grocery items and foods prepared on-site from scratch, which can mean pizza, submarine sandwiches and donuts. Some locations also have gas stations.

The chain has stores either planned or underway in New Lebanon, Ansonia and in Fort Loramie, in Shelby County.

Company officers have said Casey’s concentrates on small towns and more rural areas near state highways.

The Clayton building permit application was filed in late August. A message seeking comment was sent to company officers.
