Museum kicks off food collection campaign

Boonshoft’s Animal Ambassadors Team Up with Food Bank to Fight Hunger

On a normal day, visitors to the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery have fun exploring the worlds of science, technology, culture and history. Now, the Museum is hoping to teach visitors a different type of lesson by asking them to help fight hunger in the Miami Valley. Over the next four weeks, Museum visitors will be encouraged to donate food supplies that will end up on the shelves of food pantries across the Miami Valley.

From Friday, February 13 through Sunday, March 15, the Museum will collect nonperishable food items that will be delivered to The Foodbank. For each non-perishable food item donated, Museum visitors can be entered in a drawing for a Picnic Party with several Animal Ambassadors from the Charles E. Exley, Jr. Wild Ohio Zoo.

“The Boonshoft Museum has been an integral part of the Dayton community for fifty years, and it is important that we continue as a strong presence in tough times,” notes Diane Farrell, VP, External Relations for the Dayton Society of Natural History. “How wonderful that we can use our resources to provide both a unique Museum experience
for the winners as well as much-needed support for our community.”

The winning ticket will be chosen on Monday, March 16, and the winner will be posted at www.boonshoftmuseum.org after they have been notified. For the picnic, which will include the winner and up to seven other people, the Animal Ambassadors will be accompanied by experienced Zoo staff who will answer questions and share fun facts about some of our favorite residents. The picnic experience is one not normally offered to visitors, and will be scheduled after a winner has been selected and tailored to meet their needs.

The Boonshoft Museum is located at 2600 DeWeese Parkway, Dayton 45414. (937) 275-7431. www.BoonshoftMuseum.org
