The final construction countdown has begun for the building that will house a new Oregon District restaurant and apartment complex.
Lee Weyland of Weyland Ventures said things are moving along well for The Wheelhouse project, located at 210 Wayne Ave.
So far it will include a 40-unit apartment building and a Troll Pub Under the Bridge restaurant and bar.
“We expect to be moving residential tenants in (by the) end of June, early July. The apartments are starting to take shape,” he said. “The Troll Pub is getting ready to start their buildout. So you going to see the Troll Pub Under the Bridge space take shape. We will get the courtyard poured soon.”
He gave us a private tour of the building, including the space that will hold the Troll Pub.
Weyland said he hopes to soon make an announcement about a second restaurant he is considering moving into the building. The building was constructed 150 years ago for the Weustoff and Getz Co.
Tenants are being sought for first floor retail space in the building.
Weyland is take rental applications for the studio and one and two-bedroom apartments. Rent will range from $800 to $1,300, depending on square footage.
They are trying to determine where on the building to put the business’s signature troll statue. The building’s tower is being considered.
The restaurant will include a central bar and tons of personality.
“You can see the dramatic ceilings in here, the wood joints that go up, the exposed brick walls,” Weyland said. “There are a lot of unique features here that play off the theme of Troll Pub Under the Bridge.”
