Today is the day!
Ben & Jerry’s “Free Cone Day” is April 4. That’s when customers can get — you guessed it — a free single-scoop cone for nada. The offer is good from noon to 8 p.m.
Dayton has one Ben & Jerry’s “scoop shop,” and it’s at 1934 Brown St. near The Pine Club and the University of Dayton. We reached out to the franchise owner for that scoop shop, Adam Wilcutt, and he gave us some juicy details as well as some inside … well … scoops.
“Of course, we will have plenty of ice cream for everyone, and we do not condense the flavor menu. Every flavor we scoop throughout the week will be available on Free Cone Day.
“Each Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop partners with a local non-profit. We have partnered with Shoes4theShoeless for the past few years and will be doing so again this year. All donations that day go directly to them. We do not sell any products on Free Cone Day; it is simply a day of giving back to the community that supports us all year.
“Shoes4theShoeless does more than just take donations — they also do the majority of the scooping that day too!
“There is no cost for free cone day. Simply show up to the Ben & Jerry’s store and pick your favorite flavor. We can scoop it in a cup or cone. We gladly accept donations for Shoes4theShoeless (shoes4theshoeless.org) on that day. There are ‘front-of-the-line’ passes for those not wanting to wait in line. A donation of at least $5 gets you to the front.
“Don’t be surprised to see a long line, sometimes up to a block long. Yes, we are VERY busy on free cone day. But the lines move faster than you think!”
Got that calendar marked yet?
