Dayton catfé, beer pub team up tomorrow to help homeless, outdoor cats

The Gem City Catfé will team up with the Barrel House to raise awareness for, and to offer for free, outdoor cat shelters tomorrow, on Saturday, Jan. 21.

The event will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the beer pub at 417 E. Third St. in downtown Dayton.

Attendees can learn how to help homeless, outdoor cats and to obtain a free, ready-to-assemble, weatherproof cat shelter for their home or neighborhood. Representatives of the Humane Society of Greater Dayton will be on hand to explain the organization and its programs. The owners of the Gem City Catfé will answer questions about their coffee shop and cat lounge in the works in the St. Anne's Hill neighborhood as well as their efforts to reduce the homeless cat population.

The Gem City Catfé is working to open this spring at 1513 E. Fifth St., Sabrina Cox, cat operations officer for Gem City Catfé, told us last month. The catfé will house a coffee/tea shop and feline adoption center, offering a full-service espresso bar and serving and pre-packaged snacks. There will be a separate cat lounge.

Barrel House founder Jeff Heater, himself a cat owner, told us the event will give the community a chance to meet the catfé founders and to learn how to reduce the homeless cat population.
