Don’t just settle for dinner and a movie this Valentine’s Day.

Although it may be the perfect date night for some, you could celebrate Valentine’s Day with your partner, friends, or family in a less traditional way at some of these events.

Valentine’s Day Partner Yoga, 6-8 p.m. Feb. 14, at Day Yoga Studio, 1100 Brown St. The class promises to do a short partner asana practice followed by a deep lovers meditation, which is designed to help deepen your spiritual connection and spiritual bond. A $30 fee per couple includes wine and chocolate following the class. Space is limited so register early. Ages 21 & up, bring ID. 

Chocolate and Beer 5K/10K on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 18. Yes, you read that right. It’s the 5th annual Chocolate and Beer race in which runners receive a t-shirt, custom pint glass, chocolates, heart-shaped race bib, bottle opener medal and drink tickets for the Brixx Ice after party. Tickets can be purchased prior to the day of for cheapest rates. 

Love is in the Air, Feb. 11, YWCA Hamilton, 244 Dayton St., Hamilton. This show will have over 20 vendors and crafters to help you find that one special gift for your valentine. Minnie Mouse will be in attendance from 12-4 p.m. taking pictures. There will be a raffle for prizes, and the winner will be announced at 4 p.m. The proceeds will go toward the YWCA. Admission and parking are free. Appropriate for all ages.

Be My Valentine: Petite Chefs Hands-On Class, 4:30-6 p.m. Feb. 8, Dorothy Lane Market Culinary Center, 6161 Far Hills Ave., Dayton (located next to Washington Square store). Cook with your kid! Attend a class with Zebbie and make their Valentines Day extremely sweet. Students will create breakfast dishes that they can make again at home. Kids will learn how to make heart-shaped homemade cinnamon rolls, a fresh fruit salad with honey-lime dressing and strawberry smoothies. Registration is available now at the above link for $45. 

Wiley's Comedy Joint: Mark Kline, 7 p.m., Wiley’s Comedy Joint, 101 Pine St., Dayton. Kline will be in town with Rob Haney for a special Valentine’s Day performance. Kline is an internationally-touring comedian who’s been featured on “48 Hours,” “Comedy on the Road,” “Comedy Act,” GQ Magazine and Forbes. Tickets: $12, can be purchased at wileyscomedy.com.

GO DANCING

Valentine’s Dance: 6:30-11:30 p.m., Wright State University Nutter Center, 3640 Colonel Glenn Hwy #430, Fairborn. This exclusive event features a “Dayton's Dancing with the Stars” competition in which audience applause will determine the winner. Local community leaders and their professional dance partners will compete for the “Mirrored Ball” trophy and take home the title. This year is the All Star Competition, where past winners will compete again for the ultimate bragging rights and the championship mirrored ball trophy. Guests will enjoy live music from the Gem City Jazz Band, generous hors d’oeuvres, cash bar and desserts, dancing and a silent auction.  Reservations are limited and required, contact 937-641-4263 to purchase seats and raffle tickets.

Take Your Valentine on a Helicopter Ride. No, we’re not kidding. The Wright Place restaurant, located inside the Holiday Inn Dayton/Fairborn at 2800 Presidential Drive, has announced a special Valentine’s Day “Romance Package” that includes a four-course dinner paired with wines, overnight accommodations, and oh yes, a “Lovebirds Helicopter Ride.” More info HERE.

Sweetheart Stay Mills Park Hotel, 321 Xenia Ave., Yellow Springs, is offering a sweet deal that runs from Feb. 10 through Feb. 18. The Valentine’s package includes a gorgeous bouquet, chocolates and breakfast for two.

Valentine’s Evening Under the Stars, 6 & 8 p.m. Feb. 14, Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, 2600 Deweese Pkway, Dayton. The Boonshoft presents a special evening under the stars set to romantic music in the planetarium. Timeless love stories will be set to spectacular full-dome special effects and fun couple’s trivia will be part of the evening as well.

DON’T FORGET THE PETS

K9 Valentines Treats Workshop, 12-2 p.m. Feb. 11, Glen Helen Auditorium, 405 Corry St., Yellow Springs. Treat your furry valentine to something special. You’ll learn how to make dog treats that you will be able to take home or donate to other pups that are waiting to be taken to a nice home. There will be puppies available for adoption that are eager to offer a warm hello to every guest. Proceeds benefit Paw Patrol of Dayton and Glen Helen.
