A Fairborn restaurant that focuses on a local, farm-to-table concept is celebrating its first anniversary July 27 with some free offerings from its new summer menu.
The Wright Place is a full-service restaurant and lounge located at 2800 Presidential Drive, inside the Holiday Inn Dayton/Fairborn across from Wright State University.
To celebrate the restaurant’s first birthday, Wright Place executive chef Justin White — whose 23-year culinary career has included serving as executive chef of Jay’s Restaurant in Dayton and the Dayton Country Club — will host a special event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 27 at the restaurant.
According to a release, the event will feature a mix of complimentary food stations and passed hors d’oeuvres featuring items from the restaurant’s new summer menu. There will be also be beer and wine tastings, and Stillright’s distillery, located nearby in Bath Twp., will be offering samples of its bourbon. An acoustic duo will provide live music.
Examples of seasonal offerings from the new menu that may be highlighted at the anniversary party include:
• Trio of tacos: chorizo, chicken and fried fish with slaw;
• Hand-battered fish with beer vinegar and house made slaw and fresh chips;
• Greek wrap with marinated vegetables with feta and Greek vinaigrette.
The 140-seat restaurant and lounge has focused on sourcing ingredients and its drinks menu from local farms, breweries and distilleries.
White helped lead The Wright Place to earning first place for “Best Entree” at the 2016 Taste of Greene County event held in April at Wright State University for Ahi Tuna Tacos with Jicama Slaw and Sriracha Aioli.
The design and decor of the restaurant — which replaced “McKenna’s Grille” in the hotel — pay homage to the region’s aviation heritage as the birthplace of flight and include custom stainless-steel aircraft cables and large-scale hangar doors made from reclaimed wood, and riveted panels reminiscent of an aircraft hull.
