Fairborn restaurant offers Valentine’s special that’ll make couples soar

Fill in the blank: For Valentine’s Day, the Wright Place restaurant wants to help couples:

(a) take their relationship to new heights;

(b) make their relationship soar;

(c) realize the sky’s the limit;

(d) All of the above.

The answer is, of course, (d). That’s because the restaurant — located inside the Holiday Inn Dayton/Fairborn at 2800 Presidential Drive — has announced a special Valentine’s Day “Romance Package” that includes a four-course dinner paired with wines, overnight accommodations, and oh yes, a “Lovebirds Helicopter Ride.”

“The sky’s truly the limit for romance this Valentine’s Day at The Wright Place,” Wright Place Executive Chef Justin White said in a release. “Our goal is to give guests an over-the-top, unforgettable experience.”

The “Love is in the Air” Valentine’s package kicks off at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11. The cost for diners who want the four-course dinner ONLY is $130 per couple. Red roses cap off the experience.

Here’s the menu for the Love Is In the Air Valentine’s offer:

• Social hour with fine cheeses and charcuterie boards, served with Ruffino Prosecco sparkling wine

• Choice of Boursin cheese with fig jam and toasted sourdough, or Brussels sprout Arugula salad with pear, gorgonzola, prosciutto, rosemary walnuts and lemon vinaigrette, served with Chateau St. Jean Chardonnay

• Choice of Baked Tilapia topped with crab in a white wine butter sauce, crispy redskin potatoes and asparagus, served with Danzante Pinot Grigio, OR 10-ounce, coffee dusted Sirloin with demi-glace; haricot verts with roasted red peppers and sea salt; and farro risotto with roasted sweet potato, served with William Hill Cabernet Sauvignon

• Dessert of Chocolate Crème Brulee served with Sandeman 10-year-old Tawny Port

Couples who want to spend the night in a deluxe guestroom would pay an additional $99 (includes breakfast for two). Valentine’s dinner and hotel reservations can be made separately or as a package by calling (937) 431-4611.

And for $250 more, a couple can take a 30-minute helicopter ride provided by Vertical Advantage Helicopters of Lebanon. Romantic fly-by destinations — such as where couples got married, or where they had their first date, if applicable — can be requested.

The helicopter trips are based on availability, and reservations are required in advance.

The Wright Place restaurant reopened last summer after a four-month hiatus during which it received a significant makeover. Formerly known as McKenna’s Grille, the restaurant opened with a new name and a new focus on local sourcing of menu ingredients and beverages.

The new restaurant’s design and decor pay homage to the region’s aviation heritage as the birthplace of flight and include custom stainless-steel aircraft cables and large-scale hangar doors made from reclaimed wood and riveted panels reminiscent of an aircraft hull.

Executive Chef Justin White’s 22-year culinary career has included serving as executive chef of Jay’s Restaurant in Dayton as well as the Dayton Country Club. He helped lead The Wright Place to first place for “Best Entree” at the 2016 Taste of Greene County event held last April at Wright State University for Ahi Tuna Tacos with Jicama Slaw and Sriracha Aioli.
