2) HAUNTFEST ON FIFTH
There are plenty of opportunities this time of year to dress up for Halloween parties and events. However, for many Daytonians the season isn't complete without attending Hauntfest on Fifth. East Fifth Street in the Oregon District will once again be blocked off between Patterson Boulevard and Wayne Avenue for the city's annual Halloween celebration from 7 p.m. to 1 am. For his irreverent stage comedy "Hail Mary!" playwright Tom Dudzick's explores the increasingly complex life of Mary, a plucky young teacher at Saint Aloysius Catholic Elementary School. Cleveland rockers Mr. Gnome are spending much of October on the road, touring as far west as San Francisco and Los Angeles. Since it started in Belgrade in 1998, Talija has taken its traditional dance and music programs to Taiwan, Peru, Mexico, China, Canada, the United States and other disparate locations. The 25-member Serbian folk dance troupe last performed in the Dayton area in 2014. Scott and Joan Houghton were street performers for more than 20 years before changing their creative focus a decade ago. The Dayton Playhouse and the Miami Symphony have joined forces for a production of the beloved musical, "Fiddler on the Roof."
