On August 21, 2017, The Great American Eclipse will sweep across the United States, and only the United States.
The last time that an eclipse "touched only American soil was June 13th, 1257," according to eclipse2017.org, and the next time won't be until January 25th, 2316.

Basically, this is super rare. For a few minutes, the bright sunlight of about 2:28 p.m. will fall into a dim twilight as the moon covers 89% of the sun.
