The story behind North Dayton Garden Center’s legendary jingle

There are 5,000 trees, 6,000 bonsai plants ranging from a few weeks old to 80 to 100 years old and rows and rows of thousands and thousands of scrubs, flowers and vegetables behind the catch jingle you cannot get out of your head.

“North Dayton. North Dayton. North Dayton Garden Center.” 

 THE STORY BEHIND THE GARDEN CENTER’S LEGENDARY JINGLE IS EXPLAINED IN THE VIDEO ABOVE. 

"You name it; we've got it,"  Rick Kossoudji, the co-founder of North Dayton Garden Center,  told this news organization. "We try to have something of everything. There is always something we don't have, but that is something we are looking forward to getting next year."

They are common plants and harder to find ones like tricolored beets, baby blue spruce and Clivia Lily from South Africa.

His parents, Pete and Shirley Kossoudji, started the business on a 2 acre lot at 1915 Troy St. in 1963 and moved to its current location, 1309 Brandt Pike, in 1984.

Rick Kossoudji has worked in the garden center since he was 5 years old.

He and his dad are the main salespeople.

Customers keep them on their toes inside of the garden center’s greenhouse and on its sprawling grounds where trees are budding like crazy.

The Kossoudjis provide advice as much as they sell flowers.

“I have to teach everybody everything,”  Rick Kossoudji said, laughing.

He said gardening need not be intimidating.

Getting out there and playing in the dirt is the most important thing.
