Local Cub Scout spreading love to Dayton children, and you can help

An adorable Dayton area boy is hoping to spread the love in his heart to other kids this holiday season.

Collin Schaefer, age 6 of New Carlisie, is collecting handmade Christmas cards for children being treated at Dayton Children's Hospital.

With the help of his parents, Cathi and Bethel Twp. Fire Lt. Steve Schaefer,  Collin has already collected 52 cards.

Cards can be mailed to:

Lt. Steve Schaefer
Bethel Twp FD
3333 Lake Road
Medway, OH 45341

Cathi Schaefer said the project is the off-shoot of a toy drive by Cub Scout Pack 338. Collin is a member.

Collin wanted to make cards and send them to children at the hospital.

His mom thought he'd need a little help and posted an appeal on her Facebook page last month. It received more than 1,300 views.

In the video, Collin asks for handmade cards.

"Please make cards for the hospital cuz everyone in the hospital can't enjoy Christmas cuz they are going to be stuck in the hospital," he says in the brief video.

Cathi emailed Collin's video to  K99.1 FM Breakfast Club host Nancy Wilson and Frye Guy.

Cathi said Collin is being raised to be compassion.

He often joins her as she works at a local assisted living center.

"He is one of the most caring kids I know," she said. "He always want to help others."

Dayton Children's Hospital spokeswoman  Stacy Porter said gestures like  Collin's are very much appreciated.

"It really just helps kids who have to be away from homes have a festive spirit," she said. "It is always nice to think that someone out there, even if you don’t know them, is thinking of you."
