Sneak Peek: Luna Gifts and Botanicals

Just shy of a year since opening Heart Mercantile, six high school friends -- Brittany Smith, Kelsey Kussman, Tracy Robillard, Sarah Smith, Carly Barrett and Kelley Fortener -- are embarking on their newest Oregon District venture,  Luna Gifts and Botanicals.

Housed in the former Sew Dayton space, the modern boho-chic boutique will house more earthy, natural wares than its sister store a block away on Fifth Street.

The jump to a second shop came as a surpirse to the owners of Heart most of all.  Their current shop is flourishing selling Dayton-centric wares, kitsch and clothes, so a second space to embrace a more grounded series of products made sense. When the space next to CK Take Away on Wayne came open, they jumped at the chance to expand.

The feel of Luna will be different than that of Heart -- a clean, white space will be the backdrop to gifts and housewares ranging from natural bath products, houseplants, incense, mystic novelties and more.

Carly Barrett, co-owner of Luna, said it's the hope of the team of ladies that their two storefronts will help to build the Oregon District up as a daytime shopping and lunch destination.

With a soft opening date of Sept. 16 and hours mirroring those of Heart Mercantile, Luna will certainly be a shop to anticipate.
