Who the heck is Dayton's rollerskating Elvis?

UPDATE:

We have tracked down Skate Elvis and hope to interview him soon. More to come.

EARLIER:  Who the heck is Dayton's rollerskating Elvis?

Seriously, we want to know.

A man in an Elvis jumpsuit, jet black wig and impressive, flowing silk cape has been spotted on the bike paths near downtown Dayton since at least March.

Here is the photo Kristen Wicker snapped on March 11 on Patterson Boulevard

It was clearly not his first day on skates.

Wicker and Amy Forsthoefel, both of Five Rivers MetroParks, were driving down Patterson Boulevard when they did a double-take after seeing Elvis’ red cape and roller skates.

“We’re used to seeing cyclists and runners outdoors enjoying the nation’s largest paved trail network, but this was a first,” Wicker said, adding the sighting made them feel “gleeful.”

“It was the kind of delightful surprise that reminds you what an awesome, fun-spirited city Dayton is,” she added. “Clearly, even Elvis knows that Dayton is the Outdoor Adventure Capital of the Midwest and wanted to experience it for himself.”

WHIO-TV meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs captured him on video in April.

Dayton Daily News and Dayton.com writer Connie Post snapped a photo of Dayton's newest caped anomaly just before he got on the Great Miami River Recreational Trail near Carillon Historical Park at 6 p.m. Monday.

"It was a surprise and it was also a delight," she said. "I have always been a fan of Elvis."

He was waiting to cross the street at a light.

"Even Elvis can obey the law," Post said.

She was just one of several people to see our city's own mysterious rollerskating Elvis.

This is not the first time a caped hero has been spotted being physical in Dayton: Batman rides around Dayton on a Link bike.

Back to Rollerskating Elvis, though.

Here’s the question for you: do you know Rollerskating Elvis? Have you seen him? Has he shared a BBQ bologna sandwich with you?

Let us know. Leave a message in comments or email Amelia Robinson.

Help solve the mystery

Take a good look: Post describes Rollerskating Elvis as being in his early 20s and pre-Elvis pooch.

"It was obviously before he developed a taste for grilled peanut butter and banana sandwiches," she said.
