Archer’s Tavern confirms 2nd location in the works in Kettering

Archer's Tavern, a popular restaurant and bar that opened in 2010 in south Centerville, is planning a second location scheduled to open this summer in Kettering.

The new Archer’s is in the works at 2030 E. Dorothy Lane, in space that formerly held a Tumbleweed Southwest Grill until that restaurant closed in January 2014. It has been vacant since the Tumbleweed closing.

Archer’s co-founder Dan Apolito said this morning that the tavern’s ownership group has secured financing and expects to purchase the former Tumbleweed building and property in the next few weeks. The space is located at Dorothy Lane and Woodman Center Drive, in the northwest corner of a retail center that holds a Sears Outlet store and the Dayton campus of American National University, also known as National College.

“We’ve been looking at expansion for 18 months now, but we wanted to make sure we had the right location,” Apolito said in a phone interview this morning. The demographics of Kettering and the neighborhoods surrounding the former Tumbleweed space made the former Tumbleweed space attractive, and the layout of the building “sets up beautifully for our operation,” he said.

The new Archer’s will seat about 200 and will employ about 80. It will feature 24 craft beer taps, including two signature Archer’s brews, Archer’s Ale and Stone House Lager. The space also has an enclosed patio that can be used year-round. Construction on the interior should begin within the next few weeks, with anticipated opening in June or July, Apolito said.

The Archer's ownership group — which includes Apolito, Mike Fullenkamp and Scott Dorsten — also owns Stone House Tavern in Waynesville.

The owners are “no longer pursuing” their previously announced plans to build a 6,000-square-foot Archer’s Tavern in the Cornerstone of Centerville development, Apolito said. The owners had signed a letter of intent for the location in January 2015. Apolito said after the Kettering location is up and running, Archer’s owners will look to expand the concept to other sites.
