UD to award record number of undergraduate degrees this spring

The University of Dayton will award around 1,575 undergraduate degrees this spring, setting a new record, the school’s vice president for enrollment said.

The record is largely thanks to a tuition guarantee put in place four years ago, said Jason Reinoehl, vice president for strategic enrollment management. The previous record was 1,432 set in May 2016, according to UD.

In 2013, UD began promising prospective students their financial aid would match any increase in tuition so they would same price all four years in college. UD also got rid of individual fees and began offering four-year projections for the cost of housing and meal plans.

The tuition plan has also increased graduation rates among this spring’s senior class by 8 percentage points while reducing their cumulative loan debt by nearly $6 million, according to the university.

UD’s undergraduate degree ceremony is scheduled for 9:45 a.m., May 7 in the UD arena.

The university does not typically have commencement speakers and this will be the first spring ceremony that Eric Spina will preside over as president. A baccalaureate mass will also be held at 4:30 p.m. May 6 in the arena.
