Lock 27 Brewing is building out its second brewery and pub-restaurant in the former “Delco Building” at 329 E. First St. overlooking Fifth Third Field’s main plaza in downtown Dayton. The new brewery and 120-seat pub are projected to open in mid-2017, hopefully in time for the start of the Dayton Dragons’ baseball season next year.
The Delco Lofts building also will house more than 100 apartment units expected to open in 2017. Lock 27 founder Steve Barnhart has said he intends to keep the original Centerville brewpub open.

MUDLICK TAPHOUSE DOWNTOWN DAYTON
The owners of Mudlick Tap House are hard at work on what will become a restaurant and beer pub in the former Club Aquarius space at 135 E. Second St. in downtown Dayton. Mudlick Tap House’s downtown Dayton location initially will occupy the first two floors of the three-story building, each floor containing about 4,500 square feet.
“This place is cool, and it’s going to be VERY cool when we’re done with it,” said Forrest Williams, co-founder of Mudlick along with Jennifer Dean. The partners also operate a tap house in Germantown.

RIVERTOWN BREWERY & BARREL HOUSE
Rivertown Brewing Company will open a 31,600-square-foot Rivertown Brewery & Barrel House near the corner of Ohio 63 and Salzman Road in Monroe in early 2017. The facility will be home to Rivertown’s 50-barrel brewhouse, including all of its major production, sour beer program, laboratory, business offices, barbecue restaurant and taproom, with a 30-tap bar inside, an outdoor patio with another 24-tap bar, and, eventually, a two-acre beer garden.
“The Monroe facility is truly the realization of Rivertown’s dream,” said Abby Hofrichter, a spokeswoman for the brewery. “In this new production, taproom, restaurant and patio space, we will have the capability to grow our production well beyond 150,000 barrels a year, allowing us to better serve the seven states we are currently distributed in and look to future growth.”

CANAL STREET ARCADE AND DELI
Rob Strong will open the Canal Street Arcade and Deli in the former Canal Street Tavern space at 308 E. First St. in early-to-mid 2017. The founder of the 5th Street Wine and Deli on East Fifth Street will move it to the East First Street location. The new establishment will boast as many as 20 classic arcade games and pinball machines.
“We will have a full bar with specialty cocktails, wine, and craft and mainstream beers on 14 taps,” Strong told us.

MR. BORO’S TAVERN
Mr. Boro’s Tavern at 495 N. Main St. (Ohio 741) in Springboro is preparing to openin early 2017 in the former Bella Vino Wine Merchant & Bar retail space that has been vacant for more than two years. Its neighbors did the tavern a solid in the November election, passing a Sunday-liquor-sales issue that Mt. Boro’s had sought.
Marci Johannes, co-founder of Mr. Boro’s along with Rick Baarlaer, said after the vote: “We realize how important sports are on Sundays, and Sundays are such a relaxation day for a lot of people to gather with friends or just simply hang out for a while.” The pub will seat about 80 inside and another 25 on its patio.
