Fire at Beavercreek brewery won’t slow progress, co-founder vows

The co-founder of The Wandering Griffin brewpub in Beavercreek vowed this morning not to let an early-morning electrical fire delay progress toward the pub's opening.

Beavercreek firefighters told our Breaking News Team reporter on the scene this morning that the small electrical fire was contained quickly. Crews were dispatched to 3725 Presidential Drive around 4:30 a.m. on a reported structure fire at the business.

“It was a pretty small, isolated fire created by a combination of some electrical wires and rain on the roof,” said Brian Young, a co-founder of the brewpub that is under renovation at a former Quaker Steak & Lube restaurant. “I don’t think it will stop us in our quest to open.”

Young said he’d like to open before the end of October, but no projected date has been set, and kitchen construction could push back the opening.

In addition to this morning’s incident, a theft of electrical equipment was reported at the brewpub last weekend. That incident is still under investigation.

The cause of this morning’s fire is unknown and no injuries were reported.

The 10,000-square-foot brewpub will seat about 300 in its restaurant and tap room, and 120 more on a patio. It has additional seating in a private-events room. The brewpub will employ 60 to 80 people. The brewpub will serve other local breweries’ beers until its own brewing system can be installed.
