UPDATE: Local food truck to open beer, wine pub in the Dayton Mall

A popular Dayton-based food truck has signed a lease to open a beer and wine pub inside the Dayton Mall.

Plans call for the new Hunger Paynes Beer & Wine Garden to serve some of the same signature croquettes offered by the Hunger Paynes food truck, the truck's founder and owner Andrew Payne told this news outlet this morning.

The new pub will have 12 taps, all devoted exclusively to local breweries, and it will also offer wines from southwest Ohio wineries, Payne said. A signature wine slushie also is planned. The food menu will extend beyond croquettes to include offerings such as tacos and cheese plates.

Payne will launch the business with his wife and sister-in-law. “It will be very much a family operation,” he said.

There are no plans whatsoever to retire the food truck, which will continue operating as usual, according to Payne, who worked in several bricks-and-mortar restaurants and country club kitchens prior to launching his mobile unit in 2013.

Dave Casper, marketing director for the Dayton Mall, said this morning that the new pub will be located near Macy’s on the mall’s lower level, near center court.

“We’re excited about it,” Casper said.
