Local distillery signs agreement to expand its footprint statewide

Flat Rock Spirits, the Fairborn distillery that makes Stillwrights bourbon and flavored moonshine, has signed an agreement with Heidelberg Distributing Co. that will lead to tripling its sales footprint statewide, the distillery’s co-founder said today.

The agreement will allow the Stillwrights brand to boost its presence in the Cincinnati, Dayton and Toledo markets, and to move into the Cleveland area market for the first time, according to Brad Measel, Flat Rock Spirits’ co-founder and distiller.

The distillery has been self-distributing since it opened in 2014 at 5380 Intrastate Drive near I-675 and Ohio 444. Stillwrights spirits are available in 50 state-sanctioned liquor retail stores and in 60 bars and restaurants, mostly in the Miami Valley.

“Cleveland is by far the largest market for spirits in Ohio,” Measel said. “Our hope is that our footprint will triple by the end of this year, from 50 state stores to 150.”

Flat Rock Spirits bottles 10 products under the Stillwrights label: Straight Bourbon, Silver Rum, Spiced Rum, Bourbon-Barrel Rum, Key Lime Pie Moonshine, Margarita Moonshine, Apple Pie Moonshine, Peach Cobbler Moonshine, Cinnamon Moonshine and Traditional Recipe Moonshine.

A cask-strength bourbon is in the works, probably for release in about a year, Measel said.
