The restaurant-reservations website OpenTable.com named eight Ohio restaurants — including one from the Miami Valley — to its 2017 list of the “100 Most Romantic Restaurants in America.”

Coldwater Cafe & Catering in downtown Tipp City — which has also made our own list of romantic restaurants — scored the shout-out from OpenTable.com. A multi-unit restaurant chain that has a location in Washington Twp. — The Melting Pot — also made Open Table’s list.

Not all restaurants were eligible to be named to the list. Open Table’s “most romantic” list, and the many other “Best of” restaurant lists that the web site releases, are open only to those restaurants that subscribe to and are customers of the online-reservation company.

So in a “top Dayton restaurants” listing from Open Table, for example, restaurants such as Jay’s, The Pine Club and Meadowlark wouldn’t be eligible to make the list, because they do not use the Open Table reservations system. Restaurants that participate in Open Table pay fees to do so, and some restaurants choose not to pay to join the network.

In a release, OpenTable — which describes itself as “the world’s leading provider of online restaurant reservations” — said its “most romantic” awards “reflect the combined opinions of more than 10 million restaurant reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners for more than 24,000 restaurants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.”

The winners were based on OpenTable diner reviews collected between Dec. 1, 2015 and Nov. 30, 2016.

The restaurants named to the list “understand that sharing a delicious meal is a universal rite of courtship at any stage of a relationship,” Caroline Potter, OpenTable’s chief dining officer, said in a release. “Whether diners are out celebrating Valentine’s Day or simply connecting over a flirty dinner, this year’s honorees excel at setting the table for romance.”

Other Ohio restaurants that made the list include:

• The Bistro at Gervasi Vineyard – Canton, Ohio

• Chez François – Vermilion, Ohio

• Don’s Pomeroy House – Strongsville, Ohio

• Orchids at Palm Court – Cincinnati, Ohio

• Pier W – Cleveland, Ohio

• Primavista – Cincinnati, Ohio

• The Refectory Restaurant & Bistro – Columbus, Ohio
