Anticoli's Giuliano Tavern closing June 7

One of Dayton's longest running family-owned restaurant will be closing after being open for more than 80 years.

Anticoli's Giuliano Tavern owner Leo Anticoli announced today that the restaurant will close its doors on June 7 and Anticoli, himself, will retire.

“It’s been a good road serving many generations over the years,” Anticoli said. “I have many, many great memories of the hundreds of friends I have been made along the way, including customers and loyal employees.”

Although the closing of Anticoli's Giuliano Tavern would seem to mark the end of an era, one of Leo's sons, Michael, will continue the family legacy at his Troy restaurant, La Piazza.

Anticoli's Giuliano Tavern opened in 1931 under the name “Rendezvous”, on Fifth Street in downtown Dayton. Later, the restaurant was relocated to Salem Avenue in 1951 under the new name “Anticoli’s.”

In 2000, the Anticoli family relocated to Main Street in Clayton under the new name, “Caffé Anticoli." The restaurant would keep that name until 2010, when the decision was made to move the restaurant to downtown Miamisburg.

The restaurant's website says the name, “Giuliano, is the family’s ancestral hometown located near Rome, Italy."

Anticoli has invited all of his current and former customers to visit the restaurant before it closes June 7, and reminded holders of gift certificates to use them before the restaurant closes.

Anticoli’s Giuliano is open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday, and for lunch Friday through Sunday.
