Dave Chappelle drops out of Dayton comedy show

We have some disappointing news for those hoping to see David Chappelle on the stage of the Schuster Center 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24.

The actor and comedian who lives outside of Yellow Springs will not be participating.

Gerald Belle of GAB Productions, the promoter of the All-Star LOL Comedy Tour, said he did not know why Chappelle won't be participating in a tribute to legendary comedian Paul Mooney.

He said he received word of the change Sunday.

“I was just informed that he wasn’t going to be able to make it,” Belle said.

Actor and comedian Eddie Griffin will replace Chappelle during a segment of the evening paying tribute to Mooney during the show.

Belle said Mooney is more than worthy of the honor that includes a declaration of "Paul Mooney Day" from Nan Whaley, the mayor of Dayton.

“Pretty much all of the (comic) legends have died off,”  Belle said. “(Mooney) is one of the last ones.”

Here is a statement from GAB Productions, the tour’s promoter:

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, we regret to inform ticket holders that Dave Chappelle is unable to attend the All-Star LOL Comedy Tour on Friday, Feb. 24 at the Schuster Center. However, GAB Productions is excited to announce stage and screen comedic superstar Eddie Griffin will be on hand to present a proclamation from the City of Dayton in honor of comedic legend Paul Mooney's lifetime achievement in comedy. Griffin and the LOL Comedy Tour All-Stars will take a few moments to roast Mr. Mooney with stories and memories that promise not to disappoint."

Deon Cole, Tommy Davidson, AJ Johnson, Paul Mooney, DC Young Fly, RIP Micheals, and Ray Lipowski are set to perform.
