82 new houses near Dayton Mall moving ahead despite opposition

A plan to build 82 homes on more than 30 acres north of the Dayton Mall in Miami Twp. – replacing a proposal shot down earlier this year – has received a key endorsement.

The proposal for Ryan Homes, an official said, has been recommended 5-0 by the township’s zoning commission, which this spring asked trustees to reject a similar plan.

The previous plan, defeated by trustees 3-0, involved 88 homes in the same location. That plan was opposed by many residents of the Vienna Park neighborhood just north of the property, owned by Zengel Construction off of Ohio 741.

The revised plan has drawn similar concerns as the previous one, including the impact of traffic, drainage and green space, among others.

The revised plan for the 82 homes is set to go before Miami Twp. trustees Sept. 12, said Kyle Hinkelman, deputy director of community development for the township.
