Zombie Dogz food truck to open restaurant near UD

3:46 p.m Monday, June 27, 2016 What To Know

The highly acclaimed Zombie Dogz food truck announced on its Facebook page today that it will open a bricks-and-mortar restaurant at 1200 Brown St. near the University of Dayton.

The restaurant will be built out in the space that previously housed Shish Wraps, Zombie Dogz husband-and-wife founders Dave and Lee VanArtsdalen wrote on their Facebook page. They hope to open the Brown Street restaurant in September.

The couple is expecting their second child soon and said they “will not be operating the (food) truck very much after the month of July.

“We will still be doing a couple events and bigger festivals that we’ve done yearly. After this season we will be shutting the truck down except for festivals and a few other events,” the Zombie Dogz owners wrote.

“There might be a gap from us being in the truck and us opening the restaurant. We need time to hire a few more people, train, and open the store up,” the VanArtsdalens wrote. “We look forward to starting a new chapter, we just want to say thank you all for believing in us and always being there with the constant love and support.”

Zombie Dogz was named “Best Food Truck in Ohio” in Ohio Magazine’s 2016 Best of Ohio Readers’ Ballot. And it finished second in Mobile Cuisine’s 2016 Hot Dog Vendor of the Year poll.

The “Best Food Truck in Ohio” award was particularly gratifying for the Zombie Dogz husband-and-wife founders Dave and Lee VanArtsdalen.

“We didn’t even know we were in the running,” Lee VanArtsdalen told this news outlet in December. “We spent three years building the business and trying to do it the right way, so we feel very grateful for this. All that hard work paid off.”

Shish Wraps had operated in the Brown Street space near Stewart Street for three years before shutting down in April.
