Downtown Dayton brewery to double its taps, expand into cocktails

Toxic Brew Company is gearing up to install 20 new draft lines over the next month, doubling the brewery's selections, and will use some of those new taps to introduce craft cocktails, wines, and craft sodas, Toxic Brew officials said today, Jan. 26.

The brewery 431 E. Fifth St. in Dayton’s Oregon District also will pour beers from other breweries. Toxic Brew’s focus has always been on its own brews, and poured its own offerings exclusively when it opened with 10 taps in June 2013. It first doubled its number of taps in late 2014.

“Draft cocktails are a new trend that we’re eager to bring to Dayton,” said Shane Juhl, Toxic Brew Company’s owner. “Beyond being a national trend, many of our neighbors in the Oregon District have been doing a great job with creative cocktails. We’re excited to be a part of that while bringing it to the public in a new way.”

The expansion will occur in stages, Juhl said. Craft cocktails will be introduced in some of the brewery’s existing 20 taps by Feb. 2, in time for the Ohio Craft Brewer’s Conference that is being held at the Dayton convention center Feb. 3-5. The additional 20 taps will be installed in the subsequent weeks, and will allow Toxic Brew to expand its craft-soda offerings and to also introduce wines on tap.

The cocktails on tap will include classics such as Manhattans, Margaritas, and Dirty Martinis, “but as with our beers, you can expect a few things you may not have thought of before,” Juhl said in a release. “Dayton is a city of inventors, after all.”
