Plans in the works to reopen former site of downtown Dayton bar

Plans are in place to open a new bar at 121 N. Ludlow St. in Dayton.

Pending inspection and approval of the liquor license application, the former site of J-Alans, which closed in 2013, will become Tower Food & Spirits.

A business plan for the space, which is part of Talbott Tower,  was presented to and accepted by the building’s board of directors, who then struck an agreement with the prospective owner, who prefers to remain anonymous at this time.

“They made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. I saw an opportunity and I took it,” the owner, who is from Dayton, said.

The plan is to have Tower Food & Spirits cater to the various businesses inside Talbott Tower during the week, while providing a live music venue on Fridays and Saturdays, according to the owner.

“It’s going to primarily be a lunch and happy hour place Monday through Thursday. I love downtown and I loved J-Alans. J-Alans meant a lot to a lot of people. I have friends who played there. Our motto is going to be ‘Artists Welcome’.”

Tower Food & Spirits also plans to serve coffee and light breakfast items for morning workers on the go, while having lunch offerings made from fresh ingredients in the afternoons.

If all goes according to plan, Tower Food & Spirits is shooting for a May 1 grand opening.
