Whether it's in a tent, cabin or the comfort of your own RV, there's something to be said for getting out and enjoying the great outdoors.
And if swimming, canoeing, fishing are activities you enjoy, there's a handful of places near the Dayton-area where you can partake and enjoy the weather and scenery.
Here are five places around Dayton to camping:
Dayton Tall Timbers KOA
Enjoy a full activity schedule from now until October that includes an Ice Cream Social and/or Wine & Cheese Social every month. Stay in one and two bedroom and deluxe lodges, nestled comfortably in the woods. RVs are welcome, as well.

Five Rivers MetroParks
There are 14 camp areas available throughout four MetroParks, including Englewood, Germantown, Possum Creek and Twin Creek MetroParks. Most sites are primitive (vault toilet, fire ring, picnic table). Bring gear, food and water. Due to the threat of the emerald ash borer, do not bring firewood to any MetroParks facility. A limited supply of firewood is provided.
Permits are required for both front country and backcountry camping. To reserve a campsite in advance, call (937) 275-PARK (7275).

Wildcat Woods Campground
The campground features a pond for fishing and swimming, paddleboats for rent. There is propane, pop, ice, ice pops and ice cream in wrappers available. Wildcat Woods is near the Annie Oakley Birthplace and Museum, Eldora Speedway, Wright Brothers Museum, Winery at Versailles and other attractions.

Camp by tent, RV or rent a spacious cabin at this campsite that is only minutes from Kings Island. Nearby attractions include The Beach Waterpark, Armco Park, Cincinnati Premium Outlets and Miami Valley Gaming.

Enon Beach Campground
Enjoy camping with 20, 30 and 50 amp electric service and water taps. You can swim in the clear, chlorine-free spring-fed lake or sun on the sandy beach. You can fish at Enon Beach without paying an extra charge, and although most of the customers adhere to a "catch and release" policy, you are allowed to cook your freshly-caught catfish, bass, bluegill or sunfish for dinner. Kayaks, canoes and fishing boats are welcome, but motorboats are not permitted.
