Have you tried the Dayton Dog?

By now, many area fans of the frankfurter are familiar with Chicago Gyros and Dogs.

The family-owned and operated business was no stranger to crowds during the lunch hour rush at its former location on Wilmington Avenue. The business has since relocated to Beavercreek on Indian Ripple Road, but not much has changed.

That includes their delicious 100 percent all-beef Vienna hot dogs. They also offer mouth-watering gyros, sausages and sandwiches, but today I decided to examine the Dayton Dog.

It’s similar to the city itself in some ways: robust, yet sweet, with just enough panache to catch your attention, but nothing too cumbersome or over the top.

So what’s in a Dayton Dog?

It has mustard, relish, onions and a couple sport peppers that aren’t too hot to be enjoyed.

I added ketchup to mine…but only after the staff looked away.
