In case you didn't know, V60 coffee and freshly made sandwiches are readily available north of Dayton.

Right now, the sweet aroma of freshly ground coffee filling the soft, quiet lounge of Warehouse 4 or the friendly chatter of the community space around back might only be known by Butler High School students, commuters jetting in and out of Dayton International Airport, or a particularly coffee-savvy Vandalian.

But that all is poised to change.

It was the founders' vision, when Warehouse 4 first opened in July 2013, to provide a community space for all to learn about and enjoy quality coffee and deli sandwiches on South Dixie Drive: whether you're more inclined toward the quiet, lounge-type coffeehouse vibe, or prefer an environment that encourages discussion and energy, you'll find both in spades.

General Manager Adam Lowe and his eight-person team combine a love of great coffee, tea and food with personality and clear enjoyment for their jobs, which makes the visit all the more pleasant: Whether you know what a pour-over or Chemex is, or are just trying to find a decent cup of Morning Joe, no one wants to feel judged for their caffeine choices before it’s in their system.

Speaking of which, as the area's only specialty coffee shop, this is the place to go for your V60 brew or your Cortado, your cold brew, your dirty chai or even your daily drip. Warehouse 4 uses Counter Culture coffee beans and SerendipiTea teas from New York City, as well as our own Dayton-made Wood Burl Coffee from Press Coffee Bar.

And not only that, but you can leave with your belly full and satisfied. Warehouse has you covered for breakfast, lunch, and catering with homemade sandwiches, salads, and baked goods. Warehouse 4 is planning to include Boar’s Head meats and cheeses on their menus in the near future.

When we stopped in, we sampled the Aviator Sandwich ($6.50), with turkey, white American cheese, Dijon mustard, spinach, Romaine lettuce and tomato served grilled on Rahn's Artisan Ciabatta  bread – a classic, crunchy and homey sandwich that just hits all the right taste buds.

Warehouse also has a couple of daily sandwich specials: We grabbed the Buffalo Blue Chicken Sandwich ($7), and loved the chicken pulled with just the right amount of Buffalo Sauce, and blue cheese crumbles and little bits of celery for some added crunch. It was served on a buttery, soft ciabatta bread with perfect grill marks from the Panini press. You can add a pickle for 25 cents or a bag of chips for $1, but the sandwiches (plus coffee, of course) were filling on their own.

We also would be remiss not to sing the praises of the freshly baked goods: The white chocolate chip cookie with caramel bourbon drizzle ($1) was perfectly sweet, chewy, just the way a cookie should be. Dare we say it was a little life-changing? Though we didn’t sample, the blueberry muffins ($3 each) looked fantastic.

Bonus: If you want to really be a hit at your office, Warehouse will deliver to any location within a 10-mile radius for orders of $75 or more. Box lunches and sandwich trays are available for catering.

And soon, Lowe says, you can get your coffee to go. Plans are in place to remodel the shop to include a drive-thru for ready-made food items and quick coffee drinks – no pour-overs, unfortunately. A brand new bar and kitchen are also included in the remodeling, but the vision of the shop will remain the same: your home away from home, whether you need some peace and quiet or a place to meet and discuss – only with better coffee and delicious food at your fingertips.

So start your relationship with Warehouse 4 while you can still be on the hip side: we guarantee they won’t stay relatively unknown for much longer.
