Wings the star, of course, at Wright Wing

No surprise, the wings are the star of the show at Wright Wing.

Located in Fairborn at 1864 Colonel Glenn Highway, Wright Wing is in the space of a former Korean restaurant. For the transition to Wright Wing, the place was completely gutted inside and a great patio space was added to the front of the building. The sign, painted in the Wright State Raiders colors of green and yellow, is easy to spot, making it easy to locate the restaurant.

THE FOOD

My dining companion and I tried a small pizza, a six-piece order of bone-in wings and “The Wing Mans Way Small”, which is your choice of pizza toppings in a deep-fried pocket pizza. Basically, this is a deep-fried calzone with a side of marina sauce. For an appetizer, I selected the pretzel bites served with honey mustard.

The menu also includes subs, sandwiches, soups and salads.

The wings are meaty; the mild and BBQ sauces that I tried were full of flavor. The mild was truly mild with just a bit of pleasant heat, not overpowering or leaving you grasping for something to drink. The other options for sauces are parmesan garlic, spicy garlic, hot BBQ, sweet chili and hot. Traditional wings are served in six, 10 and 20 wing orders, starting at $4.99 for an order of six. The boneless wings are served in orders of four, eight, 12 and 20, with the order of four starting at $3.99.

The Wing Mans Way was amazing; for anyone who was raised in Fairborn, it may remind you of the “Bonzo” that used to be served at Chicken and Pizza’s locations. We decided to have the small version, but it is also available as a large Wing Mans Way. Although we decided to keep it simple and ordered the cheese-only version, you can order any of the pizza toppings inside. The small Wing Mans Way runs $5.49 and the large $9.99; the large easily could feed two or more, especially if pared with the wings or one of the appetizers.

The pizza was average to good, nothing that really stands out — but it certainly would remedy a pizza craving and it’s very affordably priced. The Flying Solo 8” with any toppings for $4.99.

CARRY-OUT

Wright Wing does offer carry-out services, however accessing an online menu proved to be a bit of a challenge.

Trying to find Wright Wing online is a bit frustrating, as I was not able to find a working website with a menu to figure out what I wanted to order. I did find the Facebook page for Wright Wing, and although the page had a photo of the menu, I was not able to actually read the offerings. I drove over and checked out the menu, finally placing a carry-out order. So if you visit Wright Wing, pick up a menu to keep at home, in the office or in your car to make it easier to place your next carry-out order. At this time, the Wright Wing does not offer delivery services.

THE SPACE

Wright Wing is definitely more ideal for smaller, more intimate gatherings.

Unless you choose to sit outside under the great covered patio, the inside dining area is very small. Although several four-top tables are available, and could technically be pushed together to accommodate a party of eight, that would fill up the room. The bar area offers about eight seats, with several TVs for watching sporting events.

For entertainment, an Ohio Lottery machine allows guests to play multiple lottery games while enjoying beer and wings.

THE WRAP UP

This location is perfect if you plan to attend an event at the Nutter Center or a Wright State outdoor sporting event. This is a great destination that should help you avoid the wait, traffic or crowds of the restaurants in closer proximity to the Nutter Center. The patio is a big plus during warmer weather. Wright Wing offers daily specials as well as happy hour during the week. Like the Wright Wing Facebook page for different promotions.

I think I will find my way back before I attend the next Raiders baseball game, as I have several different wing sauces yet to try!
