Step aside from mainstream films, kick back and relax with a local brew and enjoy classic retro series at the Little Art Theatre in Yellow Springs.
At Little Art, moviegoers of all ages can find something to love. Its films span several genres, including indie, documentary, foreign, classic and new releases.
Jenny Cowperthwaite, Executive Director of the Little Art since 1978, loves the theatre’s unique features.
“Our theatre has an ambiance unlike any other with a lovely contemporary industrial chic lobby, very comfy auditorium seats and of course our iconic houselights that were created and mounted by an Antioch College student in 1947,” said Cowperthwaite. “We also have unique concessions not found anywhere else, such as our gourmet chocolates and famous Butter Bars.”
But movies aren’t the only reason people should come to the Little Art. The big events are a draw, too.
The theatre keeps things lively with special offerings showcasing London’s National Theatre Live rebroadcasts, Bolshoi Ballet and even a monthly Retro Series. Upcoming events and guest appearances are some things you won’t want to miss.
To name a few, film stars Ted Neeley (Django Unchained) and Barry Dennen (The Shining, Titanic), will both be at the Little Art for a special appearance debuting the March 27-29 celebration of the 40th anniversary version of Jesus Christ Superstar.
Cowperthwaite has had a huge impact on the theatre’s success. She started as a cashier at the theatre at the age of 15, has managed it for 37 years and at was the owner for 12 years before transitioning it to a nonprofit in 2009. Her unconditional love for the theatre is what makes the Little Art truly stand out within the community.
With the long-lived history, cozy setting and friendly atmosphere, there’s no reason why you’re not a regular at Little Art.
