Andy Dalton has been inconsistent, but he’s not the only problem. Dalton may not be good enough to be viewed as the solution by a new staff, however, which is the bottom-line.
Enter Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma's Heisman-winning quarterback. In a recent CBS mock draft, the Bengals go bold and select Mayfield No. 9 overall.
"Controversial" pick? Bengals aren't concerned with that. If all works out, Mayfield can replace Andy Dalton and create a fun offense in Cincinnati.
The controversial aspect alludes to Mayfield’s vibrant demeanor, which while it may turn some off, isn’t a real character red flag.
Mayfield is likely the most realistic option if the Bengals elect to take a quarterback. Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold, the consensus top two passers, will probably be taken within the first three picks (if Darnold even declares).
Days of change are coming in Cincinnati. And Dalton, for better or worse, could be a victim of that.
