If you are very silent and lucky, you may be able to hear 2014 starting her swan song and New Year 2015 giddily preparing to take a swift smack on the rump and scream in to the world.
New Year’s Eve and the countdown to 2015 are right around the corner.
Some revelers will party in houses while others will head to a favorite bar or restaurant to hear a favorite band.
Still others will attend one of the special events planned to ring in the new year:

1. Champagne toast to 2015
Where: The Wine Gallery and Cafe, 5 W. Monument Avenue, downtown Dayton
Why you should go: As the Continental would say on Saturday Night Live, champagna! Five different bottles of bubbly - retailing in price from $10 to $100 — will be sampled. The Wine Gallery will have dinner specials all night and the new Chambourcin wine from Kinkead Ridge in Ripley will be opened.
Cost: Champagne tastes are $5 per glass or $20 for all five, Wine Gallery owner Brian Linnean said. Chambourcin is $5 a glass. No reservations required.

2. A night without the kids
Where: YMCA of Greater Dayton’s Camp Kern, 5291 Ohio 350, Oregonia
Why you should go: You shouldn’t go, but your kids should. Your kids can enjoy rock climbing, canoeing, night hikes, campfires, s’mores and other activities while you party the night away. The overnight camp for kids ages 7 to 15 includes meals and activities. Drop the kiddos off at 3 p.m. New Year’s Eve and pick them up by 11 a.m. New Year’s Day Preregistration is required.
Cost: $100 per child. Each additional child is $75.

3. Short Street Ball Drop in the Springs
Where: In front of the Little Art Theatre, intersection of Short Street and Xenia Avenue, downtown Yellow Springs
Why you should go: You’ve got to love that Yellow Springs is dropping its own ball. Take that New York. The event starts at 11:30 p.m.

4. Lobster risotto for the New Year
Where: Salar Restaurant and Lounge, 400 East Fifth Street Dayton’s Oregon District
Why you should go: Did we mention lobster risotto. Salar’s regular menu will be sold as well as special appetizers, entrees and desserts.
Entrees include grilled New York strip loin with purple potato medallions, wilted spinach and a relish of sugar snap peas, pearl onion, Chanterelle mushrooms and bacon finished with a merlot reduction and lobster risotto — aged Parmesan and Chardonnay, lobster meat, and spinach topped with an 8 Oz. Caribbean lobster tail.
Seatings are at 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. or later. Evening includes a DJ and dancing along with a champagne toast at midnight.

5. Prohibition Party
Where: Lily’s Bistro, 329 East Fifth St. in Dayton’s Oregon District
Why you should go: Restaurant manager Emily Mendenhall said the restaurant had such a great response to its Repeal Day cocktails that it decided to base its New Year’s party on the end of Prohibition. There will be classic cocktails and fancy 1930s dress is encouraged. There will be a costume contest and music from 1930s. The bar will be decorated to fit the theme and there will be sparkling wine options, a champagne toast and drink specials. The party is 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Cost: No cover is required.

6. Gem City New Year’s Blowout
Where: Oddbody’s, 5418 Burkhardt Road, Dayton
Why you should go: Yosemight, The Goods, Red Sun Pasta (Blue Moon Soup members) and the Mainline Funk will perform at the event organized by You’ll Never Know Production and Oddbody’s. There will be dancing, special guest appearances and other activities. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Cost: $10 pre-sale or $12.00 the day of the show.

7. Classical Destinations
Where: Benjamin & Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center, 1 West 2nd Street in downtown Dayton
Why you should go: Performers from all three members of the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance — Dayton Ballet, Dayton Opera, and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra — will perform in this event themed after “the many places on the map, both near and far-flung, that have inspired the world’s greatest music.” The celebration is 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Cost: $69 to $19.

8. Flapping good time
Where: The Century: A Bourbon House, 10 South Jefferson Street in downtown Dayton.
Why you should go: Century is asking gals to don flapper dresses and gents to dress in suits and hats for its New Year’s Eve bash.
The evening includes a guaranteed seat, a champagne toast at midnight and other treats beginning at 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. The bar will be open to the general public from 12:30 p.m. until closing.
Cost: $25. Preregistration is required.

9. Fiesta of a good time
Where: El Meson Restaurant, 903 E. Dixie Dr., West Carollton
Why you should go: Fiesta means party in Spanish and that exactly what you will find at El Meson’s 2015 Fiesta Party. Admission includes food, dancing and a champagne toast between 1o p.m. and 1:30 a.m. The restaurant will serve dinner 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

10. Night Above Dayton
Where: Crowne Plaza Dayton, 33 E. 5th St., downtown Dayton
Why you should go: the hotel’s New Year’s Eve package includes luxury accommodation for two, an appetizer in View 162, its rooftop restaurant, a bottle of house wine, breakfast for two the New Year’s Day in View 162, valet parking and a party. Jazz musician Chris Comber will perform in View 162 beginning at 8 p.m.

11. Last skating
Where: MetroParks Ice Rink at RiverScape MetroPark, 111 E. Monument Ave., downtown Dayton
Why you should go: Take one last spin around the ice rink before 2014 fades into her-story. The New Year’s Eve Skate is open to all ages 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Cost: $7. Registration is not required.
