Some of you may already know this, but TED and I are pretty good friends. We actually ended up getting a beer over at Fifth Street Brewpub on Friday after his conference. We joked, talked of memories past, and toasted to another successful conference. Man, I miss TED.
Before the comments section below start to fill with folks who are unamused by my satirical banter, TED is not a real person. TED actually stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design. TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). Starting back in 1984 where the main ideas spoken about were Technology, Entertainment, and Design, today a TED talk can take the form of any topic desired.
Although I was unable to video any of the speakers (all speakers talks will be uploaded to YouTube, then linked to the TEDxDayton website), I was able to get a few interviews from attendees and past speakers, as well as show how the day went. See for yourself in the quick video I made below.
On Friday, October 14, the 4th annual TEDxDayton event was held at the Victoria Theatre. What’s the difference between a TED event and a TEDx event? TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. This year delivered just like years past. With an array of talks ranging from heartfelt and tear-jerking to lovable and lighthearted, a rollercoaster of emotion is always expected during this all day event. With speakers ranging from teenagers to seasoned Congressmen, an eclectic buffet of ideas were presented for all attendees minds to devour.
Below you will find a list of the 2016 Speakers. I would like to encourage you to do two things: 1.) When the videos are available, check give them all a watch (Neenah Ellis was my favorite), and 2.) Attend the event next year. TEDxDayton has sold out every year and one Major Key is to buy your tickets as soon as they go on sale!
