Back at it again with the Good English gals

There is a reason that everyone in Dayton loves Good English: they are local, all original, way talented, ultra-glamorous, and total badasses. This weekend, these young rock stars release their second album and kick off another epic tour. Ladies, you do us proud. Let's show them our love tonight at their show at Blind Bob's. Friday, March 11th

The Good English CD Release and Tour Kickoff Partaaaayyyyy is being held at Blind Bob's in the Oregon District. Friends from Nashville Secret Club are also performing, along with local groups Smug Brothers and Far From Eden. 9 p.m. show. $5 cover. Ages 21+.

I'm incredibly stoked that we have two amazing national acts, The Nth Power and Jonathan Scales Forchestra, right here in our back yard at The Trolley Stop. The band members in these groups are superstars in their own right, and being up close to this mega funk talent is truly mind boggling. Pre-sales have ended, and I do not know if this show is officially sold out. (It should be!). Please call The Trolley Stop to ensure there are still tickets, or swing by early and pray you get in. This is truly going to be an incredible night! Doors at 8 p.m., show at 9 p.m. $17 admission at the door.


Country fans will be delighted to hear that Colt Ford, local band Truk, and Travis Williams & The Backwoods are taking the stage at Oddbody's Music Room this evening. Doors 7 p.m., show 7:30 p.m. $22.50 advance. $28 at the door.

More of a Blues mood? Check out our famous Noah Wotherspoon at Oregon Express tonight starting at 9:30 p.m.

The EDM scene always has a special night on Deep House Fridays at Therapy Cafe. This week features San Francisco-based Fred Everything  who has been a driving force in the House music world for over twenty years. Admission is $5-$15. Ages 18+ Starts at 9 p.m., ends at 3 a.m.

Cincinnati rock band The Grove is performing at Jimmie's Ladder 11 tonight.They will be playing this show with Authorized Personnel. Get ready to get down and jam with this soulful, rock, and funk music!  9 p.m. doors.

An Intimate Night in Jazz can be had at Gilly's Jazz this evening, featuring SaxTone and The Fullfillerz, The Tryangles, The Liquid Crystal Project, Jay Martinez, and Taliaferro Sebastian. Doors 7 p.m. Show 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 advance (check Omega Music), or $20 at the door.


Outside of downtown, there are of course great shows too! Mirage: Visions of Fleetwood Mac, will be at Hobart Arena in Troy. They really do look and sounds like the originals! Doors 6:30 p.m., show at 8 p.m. Tickets are $19-$39.

Bored in Yellow Springs? Check out The Left Hooks and Baouku at Peach's Grill. They have a super interesting, jazzy, world music vibe.. I think the open-minded, curious crowd in YS will be delighted by this evening's entertainment! Show 10 p.m.

Taffy's of Eaton is presenting an evening with Adrian and Meredith Krygowski, described as a dynamic, hard-working tour-de-force, ready to entertain anyone in their audience path, making instant fans every show. They blend folk, old-time, post-punk, pre-war jazz, soul, rock and roll, country and acoustic music in the same set, sometimes same song. Wow! Moriah Haven starts off the evening. 8-11 p.m.

Saturday, March 12th

Start your St Patrick's Day celebration early at Fifth Street Brew Pub today, with lots of specials and live entertainment: 1–3 p.m. Rick and Hillary Wagner, 3:30 p.m. Irish Dancers, and 6–9 p.m. Rocky Creek.

Joshua Powell & The Great Train Robbery performs Saturday evening at South Park Tavern

I'm personally excited about the line up and South Park Tavern tonight, which includes, BeeslyJoshua Powell & the Great Train Robbery, and Salvadore Ross. These are rockin' original bands, that are truly cool. Get there early as space is limited! Show 9:30 p.m.

The Tadcasters, a bluegrass band from Cincinnati, are going to be pickin' and pluckin' over at The Trolley Stop. $5 cover. 9:30 p.m. show.

Jericho Thyme, a local up-beat Americana band, will be getting down with special guests Brian Spirk and Khrys Banks at Jimmie's Ladder 11. Little bit rock'n'roll, little bit country kind of night, which is usually perfect for any kind of crowd! 10 p.m. $5 cover.

Metal bands Close the Hatch, Navaeh, The By Gods, and Mess Of Owls are performing at Blind Bob's tonight. This is one of a few metal shows this evening, but the only one downtown, so get on it! 9:30 p.m.

Dayton's underground music scene is putting out killer music, and Music Connection Dayton has created The Dayton Underground Series to showcase some of the best of Dayton area music. Tonight's series is taking place out in Fairborn at  W.O. Wrights, and features  Able Danger, Left in the Dark, and the Best of Dayton Underground 2015 "Best Local Rock" Winner Crosley CourtAdvance Tickets are $8 and will get you an EXCLUSIVE 5-track event download card with music from all 3 performing acts! Day of Show Tickets are $10. 18+ w/ ID. Doors at 9 p.m., show at 9:30 p.m.


Rock the Yard, an event at the Courtyard Lounge in Englewood, is also featuring a big line up of local punk/hard rock bands including:  Legbone, Menace 2 Sobriety, Throttle,Two Punch Gun and Poundsalt! $5 cover at the door, ages 21+ show (ages 18+/$10 at door). Doors open at 8 p.m.

Peach's Grill has an awesome St Patrick's Bash scheduled with lots of entertainment, including some awesome late night entertainment with The Almighty Get Down (on at 11:30 p.m.) and The Willy Clark Band (on at 10 p.m.). For full daytime schedule, click here. $5 cover.

Taffy's of Eaton has singer/songwriter Bill Price in town, who is performing with Paul Holman on guitar and Grover Parido on cello. Special guest Josiah Whitely starts off the night at 7:45 p.m.


The Bach Society of Dayton presents "Songs of Mystery and Praise" - an evening of choral and orchestral bliss with Gabriel Fauré’s sweeping, ethereal Requiem, a lullaby of eternal rest, and the most popular and best-known of all the Gospel canticles, J. S. Bach’s exultant and mesmerizing Magnificat, Song of Mary. 7:30 p.m. $18/adults, $10/students 13+, free admission for ages 12 and under.

Jimmie's Ladder 11 has a very special night of solo performances in store for this weekend's Sunday Funday, featuring: Andy Smith (Me Time), Burris Dixon (Me & Mountains, SWIM DIVER), Chad Wells (Cricketbows), Micah Kemplin (Ossicles), John Dubuc (Trey Stone and the Ringers) and Ward Lawson. Plus a duet by  Pj and Tommy of The Motel Beds! Just $5.

Blind Bob's also has a Sunday show with the Left Hooks, Bribing Senators, Ex Norwegian. This is a great second chance to Left Hooks while they are back in town! 9pm.

Monday, March 14th


Well, OK you might be at the Sissy and Salvadore Ross show at Blind Bob's. Understandable! Either show is going to be sweet!

Crazy popular heavy metal band Havok will be taking a break from their Megadeath tour, and stopping by  RockStar Pro Arena for a show starting at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, March 16th

Dublin Pub is gearing up for St Patrick's Day with a pre-party featuring ONE - A Celebration of U2 fan page. $10 admission and your wristband is good for entry on St. Patrick's Day, so its a two for one VIP special. Pre-sale tickets are available The Dublin Pub. Tents open at 6:30 p.m. (The Dublin Pub opens at 11 a.m., as usual). ALT 103.9 Live Remote with Steve Dent from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. ONE, a celebration of U2 takes the stage at 8 p.m.

Family Jam Wednesdays are now at Therapy Cafe. Stop by for open band jams and great free food! Doors are at 8 p.m. and music begins at 9 p.m. Ages 18+ This is a completely free event happening every Wednesday evening.

Another weekly jam session is the Ol' Time Acoustic Jam at Trolley Stop. This is also free and starts at 9 p.m.

Super Fan Shout Out: I would like to extend a special shout out to some of the other "ultimate fans" out there: Richard Brown, Tommy Johnson and Nathan Ankney. Richard diligently covers the music scene from his video camera, and you can check out some of his footage here. Tommy has an awesome site called The Dayton Scene where he covers the Dayton music scene from his own unique perspective. And Nathan is just someone I always see at shows, who grooves the same rhythms I have for well over a decade now. It's always nice to see someone who vibes music in the same way!
