DMAFF is not the only magic happening this weekend. Seven of the area's leading performing arts organizations are combining for two special performances of American Mosaic at the Schuster Center. We are so blessed to have seven professional arts organizations in a city our size, and to see them perform together is truly going to be spectacular. Read about these events and more below.
Friday, September 18th
The DMAFF festival kicks off today! Music is spread among four downtown venues: Blind Bob's , Canal Public House , Dublin Pub and The Yellow Cab, and runs from 7:30 p.m. through 2 a.m.
In total there are 18 bands and 1 DJ -- so it can be really tough to decide which show to catch! Babbling April or Human Cannonball? Nightbeast or Me Time? Buffalo Killers or Good English? Ah!! One of the highlights will surely be the Pride Celebration Dance party at Yellow Cab starting at 9:30 p.m. with DJ Barticus. This is one of the free, all-ages portion of the program, and coincides with Yellow Cab's monthly food truck rally. If you're short on funds, there is no excuse to miss this free dance party!
P.S... There is a LOT more to this festival than music, so check out all the programs they have to offer! I'm planning on taking part in the Pink Floyd yoga session, called Floydasana, at K-12/TEJAS Gallery! So cool.
Believe it or not, there is even more music going on downtown that's not part of DMAFF. Incredible! And there are some great shows happening on the outskirts of town as well.

Slightly west of the Oregon District, you can find jazz saxophonist Mr. Edde Osborne performing at
Coffeehouse and Wine Bar. This event kicks off their new Jazz series, which I'm personally really excited about! There is a small cover charge of $5 for this event. Music starts at 6 p.m. What a lovely way to spend a late summer evening.
Vex is hosting a killer benefit show to help the homeless in Dayton. The five band line-up includes: Jc & the Disappointments , Lyle , Paradigm Shift , Akillis Green , and The Mainline Funk . If you're in the South Park / UD area, check out the Old News with The Dirt Poor Troubadours show at Jimmie's Ladder 11. Enjoy some truly great songwriting for a laid back evening. P.S...For the UD kids who don't know what to do with their parents this weekend, this is a perfect option. Food and tunes you'll all like!
Just wanna dance?? Well if you wander from the free dance party at Yellow Cab over to Therapy Cafe, you can keep the party going! Therapy's Deep House Fridays series features DJ and vocalist Colette. She grew up in the Chicago underground scene, and has evolved into an international star who is praised by Pitchfork, Vibe and Spin Magazine, among many others. Show starts at 9 p.m. Ages 18+. Tickets are $7 pre-sale, $12 at door.
Rap-rock-metal fans: Bonz, with A.D.D. and Throttle, are performing at Oddbody's. Show time is 7 p.m. Ages 18+. Tickets are $8-$12.
In the burbs? Swing by Spinoza's in Beavercreek to see Mr. Neil Jacobs, an acoustic 12-string guitar master. Further north, don't miss Buffalo Wabs & the Price Hill Hustle at Peach's Grill in Yellow Springs. Down south in Franklin, local country band TRUK will be at JD Legends.

Blind Bob's and Yellow Cab. Music starts at 7 p.m. and runs throughout the evening. Again, such a stacked line-up! I'm looking forward to seeing:
Tim Pritchard & The Boxcar Suite, The 1984 Draft, Smug Brothers, New Old Fashioned, Moira, Motel Beds, R. Ring, and Diane Coffee. But - wow - so many bands I've never seen or heard of! Remember to tweet me and let me know which were your favorites!!
The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance's 2015-2016 Season is opening in a truly spectacular style this weekend, with the production of American Mosaic, which celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Miriam Rosenthal Foundation for the Arts.
You will experience the Dayton Ballet, Dayton Opera, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Bach Society of Dayton, Human Race Theatre Company, The Muse Machine, and Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) all under one star-studded ceiling! The program features a variety of vocal, instrumental, theatrical and dance works by well-known American composers/writers including Aaron Copland, Douglas Moore, Jule Styne, Tennessee Williams, Randall Thompson, Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Simon & Garfunkel and others. Performance starts at 8 p.m. Remember, there are Senior & Military Discounts available, as well as a $15 Student Rush day of performance. Regular tickets start at $38+.
Grateful Dead fan? You've got two opportunities to see local tributes to the all-American band whose been celebrating 50 years of music: Arrows of Neon are performing at Oregon Express and Terrapin Moon at Jimmie's Ladder 11.
Metal fans will be buzzing over to Oddbody's for Saxton and Armored Saint with MindMaze and Bridges to Burn. Show's at 7 p.m. Ages 18+. Tickets are $25-$30.
If you graduated from high school in the 80's, you might like to know that Warrant with special guest L.A. Guns will be south of town in Franklin this evening at JD Legends. Yeah, hair bands do still exist! Please note: you are allowed to bring your own lawnchairs if you desire. Some seating will be available on a first come-first serve basis. Doors at 5 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets $20.
Spinoza's in Beavercreek is hosting Eldorado Brown, a 3-piece blues band which plays both covers and originals. They promise to bring a unique style, infectious groove, and rich 3-part harmony. Check it out! Music starts at 7 p.m.
Sunday, September 20th
This is your second chance to catch the DPAA's Season Opening Spectacular, American Mosaic, at 3 p.m. Don't miss it!
How about a combination of Blues, a southern supper and football? Wow! Riff Raff Tavern is offering just that for only $10! The evening starts off with an acoustic set by Rick Frazier, then kicks into gear with the band Southbound, a local southern rock group. Plus all you can eat food with NFL on every TV?! Sounds like a win-win all around!
Sunday night is also the night for the Jazz Jam at Jazz Central on 3rd. It's Dayton's Longest Running Jazz Jam, and is sure to please fans of old-school imrpov. Cover is just $2 and music starts at 8 p.m.
If you didn't get enough rock'n'roll in your system this weekend, check out: Tiger Sex , MUGEN HOSO and Skurt at Blind Bob's. Have fun -- I'll probably be resting up! Whew! What a weekend.
