Welcome to 2018! As we are all making our resolutions for the new year, remember that the best way to sustain your local music scene is by showing up to a show! I sincerely hope to see bigger audiences, better shows, and lots more smiles in this upcoming year.
Let's get on that resolution and see a show this weekend!
If you're looking for something more experimental and abstract, check out Skeleton Dust Records on Friday evening. They're hosting an art opening for Dayton's Jonathanen Brojazz, an abstract video artist. The opening event pairs his video art with his experimental sound project mASScOMM (performing live). Also performing is Iovae
(Cincinna), described as deep space oscillations, and Begravd (Piqua), making their debut performance. Starts at 7pm.
You know it's going to be a party when you see Cherry Lee & The Hot Rod Hounds on the bill! They're gonna have people dancing to their original old style country and rock-a-billy originals at Blind Bob's. 9:30pm. $5 cover. 21+
Mick and Yellow Cab invite you to this special reunion and special evening of storytelling about memories of Canal Street Tavern. If you ever listened to music here, worked here, drank here, or just hung out here, this show is for you! Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to help Mick with publishing his book. Event from 7pm-12:30am
For the many of you who are missing David Bowie, there is a special event for you this weekend too! The Dayton Philharmonic presents Space Oddity: David Brighton as David Bowie. Mr. Brighton is considered one the world's best David Bowie impersonators. Performing Bowie's music, paired with the power of the full Dayton Philharmonic, makes for an unforgettable evening. Tickets start at $29+. For tickets call 228-3630 or visit ticketcenterstage.com. Show at 8pm at Schuster Center.
Rock fans have a fun night in store at Blind Bob's with Life In Idle (9:00-9:35), You vs. Yesterday (9:50-10:30), Heavy Things (10:45-11:25), The Forty (11:40-12:20). +21 (must have valid ID). $5 cover.
Two new bands on my radar are performing Saturday night at Jimmie's Ladder 11: Brother Rabi and the Soul Seekers and Vinyl Monologue. This is a fun place to check out new music, and get some food too! Music gets started around 9pm. $5 cover.
As always, thank you for supporting live music!
