This weekend is a great time to check out the

, especially for any Hip Hop fans in the area. The GCGD is a musical event that pops up on the radar a few times a year. The extra cool thing about these events is that they benefit local charities, this time aiding Shoes for the Shoeless, an organization that provides shoes for area children.

The Gem City Get Down was started by members of the Dayton Hip Hop Dialogue as an alternative to the typical local Hip Hop show.

is hosting, with

spinning. Stop by

on Saturday March 11th to find out what all the hype is about! 9pm Doors. $3 cover.

Friday March 10th

If you're planning an early evening, I encourage you to check out Todd the Fox at Wandering Griffin, out near Wright State. It's a new brew pub off Colonel Glenn Hwy, right off I-675. Super easy drive, great music and delicious beer on tap. Add fantastic tunes from Todd the Fox, and I'd say that's an ideal evening out! Music 8-10pm.

New band Rite of Venus encourages you to throw out your smart TV, because the music will not be televised. Ha! I love encouragement in that direction. Let's all get out and live life in the real world! Check out the roots rock styling of Rite of Venus on Friday evening at 8pm and 11pm, with Blues man Bob Dellaposta doing a 9pm set. Hank's Pub. Music 8pm. No cover. 21+

Downtown, check out two excellent local bands:

, who are performing at Tumbleweed Connection. This is rock'n'roll that I think a variety of folks will dig, plus it's always a good time at Tumbleweed! 9:30pm. $5 cover. 21+

The punk night planned for Oscar's in Vandalia is badass! Features Dayton legends Legbone, with Menace 2 Sobreity, Tiger Sex, and Reppertons. Oscar's has been a great supporter of original music lately, so head over to show your support in return! Plus that line up is awesome for area punk fans! $7 cover. 9pm Music. 21+

Rachel Litteral and The Abstracts are new on my radar, and performing out at Peach's in Yellow Springs. Promising a sultry voice, and great back up band, this one sounds fun to check out! 10pm. No cover.

One of my favorite shows happening this weekend is

on Saturday night. This band is a super-group of sorts, featuring some of my favorite Dayton musicians, who perform original piano-driven rock that's perfect for a variety of audiences. Great for groups heading out and want to listen to music that's mutually enjoyed! 9:30pm. $5 cover. 21+

If you're looking to rock out, there is a super solid line up over at Oregon Express with Stella's Demise with McGuff & the Dumpster Fires and Sam At Eleven. That will be a super high energy show! Fun! Music starts at 10pm. $5 cover. 21+

Local band Bribing Senators is celebrating their CD Release north of town this weekend, up at Oscar's Bar in Vandalia. Oscar's is quickly becoming a second home to original bands from Dayton, so please show them some love! Special guests Move Home (Columbus) and The Blind Cavalry are also planning to rock out Saturday night! 9pm. $5 cover.
