Dayton Music Insider: Seraglio to Scythian

I was recently asked why I moved back from Florida, many years ago, when I decided to venture away from Dayton for a short time. The diversity of music was one of the main reasons for coming home.

This weekend is a prime example of that diversity: you can start off the weekend by seeing one of Mozart's most famous but rarely performed operas, rock out to alternative legends like Kelley Deal and Mike Montgomery, wheel around the next day and see Celtic rock stars Scythian, and top the night off with a roots rock band from Chicago!

There is so much to see and do this weekend, and it's going to be unseasonably warm - so please support your local original musicians!

Classical fans, this weekend provides the awesome opportunity to see The

perform Mozart's vivacious comedy

The Abduction from the Seraglio,

which features rollicking Turkish-flavored music, virtuosic solo singing, stupendous duets and ensembles, and the exotic setting of a Turkish harem. You may remember this from the movie

Amadeus!

start at $28. For this production there is also a special on "The Crow's Nest" (Upper Balcony) for just $10! 8pm show. Also 3pm on Sunday Feb 19th.

Alternative rock fans have a couple "don't miss" events themselves, which includes Friday night's show at Blind Bob's, featuring Andy Gabbard with Grape Wizzard, Andy Smith, and R. Ring. The latter band includes Dayton legend Kelley Deal, which is always fun! Lots of excitement brewing for this one - so get there early! Show 10pm. $5 cover. 21+
