Dayton Music Insider Top Pick: Ye Olde Yellow Cabaret X, "This is Halloween"

This long-running event features live music, along with belly dancing, fire spinning, burlesque, and hooping. The performing arts collaboration makes this event memorable.

The unique mini-festival presents a variety of vendors, food trucks and beer, plus your chance to win a signed poster from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Featured artists and performers include: Curse of Cassandra, Arlow Xan, The Skeletones, Troupe RojaTinderbox Circus Sideshow, Troupe Hëxa, Miss Stixin Stones, DaShane StarFox, Skye Amos WolfAmanda Hanisch Kelsey JeanHunger Paynes Food Truck, and DJ V-RAL.

How to go ? 7 p.m.-1:30 a.m. Sat., Oct. 22 at "Olde" Yellow Cab Tavern (aka Yellow Cab Tavern), 700 E. 4th St., Dayton. Tickets are $15 presale, $20 day of event.

Friday, Oct. 21


Blues rock fans, don't miss Scotty Bratcher CD Release show at Oddbody's Music Room. He is quickly becoming quite the local legend for blues guitar enthusiasts. Tickets $10-$15. 7pm doors. 8pm show. 18+

An epic Elliott Smith Tribute show is set for Jimmie's Ladder 11. It's a gathering of many of Dayton's coolest kids, including Paige BellerCharlie TiptonNathan PetersDavid BerryBen CooperShane WeberRandy M. CornettZack Sliver, and  Phonophage. 9 p.m., ages 18+. I'm assuming $5 cover!

Love indie rock and art? Get over to Cloverdale for live music, an extensive art show and fire from Ali Matta. Dayton favorites  My Latex Brain Dirty Socialites and  J. Marinelli are rockin' out from 10 p.m.-2 a.m. $5 cover (so worth it!).

Alternative/indie fans check out MOIRA (feat Tino), Mad Anthony, and Sidekick Complex at Blind Bob's. It will be a refreshing mix of musical styles, very experimental! Gotta love that. Show at 9 p.m., $5 cover, ages 21+.


Saturday, Oct. 22

Need live music you can take the kids to? Visit me at the Human 2.0 Fest in Beavercreek! I'll be the emcee at the "Movement" stage, which includes live music starting at 4:30 p.m. from Gregory Bogard and The Gathering and the local folk/Celtic/acoustic band Ludlow. Better yet, come early and participate in all the free workshops, including meditation, yoga, QiGong, and Pranic Healing, offered all day long, starting at 10 a.m. Great kids workshops too! All free at the Heartfulness Meditation Center, 3153 Lantz Rd Beavercreek. 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

A great early downtown option is the Songwriter Extravaganza at the Boston Stoker on 2nd, downtown on the Courthouse square. Come out and enjoy tunes from Eric Cassidy, Georgia Goad, and John Dubuc. It will be an excellent evening of fun, coffee, and music. 5-7 p.m.

Rich Reuter performs a rare solo set in Bellbrook Saturday evening

A little gem of a show I'd love to point is the Rich Reuter solo show out in Bellbrook. Well worth the drive, especially if you are coming from Human 2.0! He's performing a rare solo show at Zemore's Wine Cellar & Bistro, performing a mix of originals and covers. One of my favorite Dayton guitarists, and such a genuine spirit! Highly encouraged attendance here. Plus it's a great spot with a wide selections of wines to taste and some excellent food. Admission is free! 7-9:30 p.m.

Metal fans! Do not miss the Metal in Strange Places Conference Benefit Show. This show is taking place at Oddbody's Music Room after the Conference, which is being held at the University of Dayton. Henkka Seppala, long time bass player for Finnish extreme metal band Children of Bodom, will be performing! Tickets are $10. Doors 8 p.m., show 9 p.m.

The Trolley Stop is hosting a cool show of new original music, featuring Magnolia Supernova and NovaGold. Randy Cornett from Roley Yuma will start off the night with a solo set. Music from 9:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m. $5 cover.


Taffy's of Eaton has a super special event happening this Saturday: Django Presents Moriah Haven's Artist Showcase Extravaganza! Live music starts at 6:30 p.m. with Willy Clark, and continues with Timothy Combs, Waterbear, Troy Petty, Sonny B. Gould, and Moriah Haven ending at midnight. Poetry provided by Kyle B Epperson and Gypsea Salt, as well as visual art by Melissa McClanahan, Porscha Fleming, and Earth Elements. It's a free event, but tips are highly encouraged.

If you're east of town, and fond of acoustic bluegrass, folk, Americana music, make sure you check out Ryan Judy and Brian Spirk at Peach's Grill in Yellow Springs this evening. Both are extremely talented musicians! Music starts at 10pm, and there is no cover!


Looking for something fun to do Sunday night? Check out Yikes A Band, Neverhawks, Helen of Coi, and Balcony View all performing at Blind Bob's starting at 9 p.m. $5 cover gets you in. Ages 21+.

Monday, Oct. 24

Your Monday plans just got a whole lot better! Join two wonderful local songwriters, Todd Clemmer and Gregory Bogard, for a special evening of music and healing at Jimmie's Ladder 11. Both of them have a wonderful way of connecting to the audience, so definitely stop by if you can! Plus there is no cover, and Jimmie's has great food and drinks! Todd starts at 10 p.m. and Gregory performs 11 p.m. until midnight.
