Dayton Music Stands Strong

In times like these, we depend upon our artists, musicians and creatives, to keep our hope and spirits high. They pull us together and remind us of our shared humanity.

When I put together my list of shows for the weekend, I was thrilled to see that our Dayton music scene is doing what they can to stand strong with the Standing Rock community. We truly have the best group of musicians here, who truly care about others.

Keep reading to find out about that wonderful benefit show, and all the great concerts happening this weekend!

Friday November 18th

Friday night features two great electronic shows. This is great chance to check out the uber popular Thriftworks, from Salt Lake City. This Dayton debut is supported by Ohio heavy hitters Vibe & Direct, Toadface and AB-Life. It's all happening at Cloverdale (former Vex nightclub).  18+ $14 ADV/ $20 DOS ($18 if you are in space themed anything!).

Across town, it's Deep House Friday presents one of the world's most celebrated figures in house music, New York City's Todd Terry. Tony DeSaro,Darrell Stout and Will Ross will also be in the house. Show 9:30pm - 3am at Therapy cafe. $20 at the door. 18+

For all you rockers out there, don't miss a tantalizing night with Parlour Tricks and Tiger Sex at Blind Bob's. Yeah baby yeah!  (Said in my best Austin Powers voice!) $5 gets you in to the festivities. 9pm. 21+

It's Free Music Friday at South Park Tavern. Tonight they showcase Poncé, a rock-pop duo based in Nashville, featuring twin brothers Carson and Michael Poncé. You can definitely hear the country influence in their songs. Nice stuff! Give a listen. It's free! 10pm show.

Beloved Blues guitarist Noah Wotherspoon is laying it down at Oregon Express. Rob Thaxton & Brian Aylor start things off. For Blues fans in the area, this is a no-brainer! $5 cover. 9:30pm 21+

Feeling a little freaky? head over to see Freakquency at Flanagan's Pub. You'll need your dancing shoes for this one! $5 cover. 9pm 21+

Saturday November 19th

Certainly one of the most anticipated concerts this weekend is

. That's music to a lot of people's ears! This annual Thanksgiving show has the possibility of selling out, so definitely try to secure advance tickets! $15 admission. Doors 7pm. Show 8pm.

It's going to be a great night for all the rock'a'billy fans in the area at Cherry Lee & The Hot Rod Hound's CD Release Party at Oddbody's Music Room. Rebel City Wreckers and The American Kings will kick off the night. This is high energy fun for anyone who likes country, rock, blues and everything in-between. 7pm Doors. 8pm Show. $8 admission. 18+

More of an bluegrass / Americana / folk fan? I recommend the OldNews and Flatland Harmony Experiment show at Oregon Express. These guys are great! There's gonna be some good pickin' going on down there, backed by strong vocals. Gets my country spirit going! 9pm Doors. 10pm Show. $5 cover. 21+

, features Amp Line, Yardboss, and Brat Curse. Definitely anticipate seeing a lot of cool kids at this show! 8pm-1am. 21+ $5 cover.

The Blues pick for tonight is Grammy nominated and former Allman Brother's keyboardist, Mr. Johnny Neel is performing at the Plaza Theatre in Miamisburg. Tickets range from $18-$28. Doors 8pm. Show 8:30-11:30pm.

Sunday November 20th

Looking for something lovely to do on a Sunday afternoon? Stop by the Dayton Art Institute to hear "String Quartet Gems" by the Dayton Philharmonic. It's a casual and cool way to listen to classical music, with General Admission seating in the beautiful Renaissance Theatre, inside DAI. Tickets are just $22. Senior and student discounts available. Last but certainly not least, I encourage you to support the Standing with Standing Rock show at Blind Bob's. Musical Guests include: FreakquencySpeaking SunsNOVAGOLD Gregory Bogard, Sharon Lane & Danny Sauers and Brett Hill. There will be a raffle and various ways you can support this worthy cause! Show 9pm - 2am.
