Excuse me while I kiss the Sky

Libby Ballengee and Sky Emmanuelle Crume, as high school students, circa 1994.

This week's blog is dedicated in loving memory to my lifelong best friend, Sky Emmanuelle Crume Noble. In high school, she took me under her wing my first day of freshman year and introduced me to rock'n'roll, from Black Sabbath to Nirvana. She took a bonafide band dork and did her best to make me cool!

Our first concert was in March of 1994 where we saw Guided by Voices, The Breeders, Afghan Whigs, Gaunt, and New Bomb Turks at Hara Arena. What a show! Ever wonder how I became the "Dayton Music Insider"? It all started that night. I'm forever grateful to her for showing me the magic of live music!

Thank you for letting me pay tribute to her, and now on to the music this weekend!

Friday September 16th

Right after work on Friday, take a stroll along Main Street (between First and Second Streets) for the Downtown Dayton Partnership's epic end of summer celebration:  Downtown Takes the Stage: Performing Arts Street Party. This free party combines the best of all the performing arts, including music, theater, dance, puppetry and more. Food and beer also will be part of the fun. Stay tuned for more information about programs and partners as it becomes available!
