This week, a huge shout out and congrats go to The Motel Beds on the release of their new LP, Mind Glitter. This hard working and highly respected Dayton rock band has been prolific with their song writing, cranking out tons of original songs the last twelve years. You can find their catalog online here or on iTunes. If you're not familiar with this Dayton band, get to know them. They aren't going anywhere but up!

- Local musicians are having a loving sendoff for renowned keyboardist, Mr Sean Finnigan, who is departing for new opportunities. Members of Lost on Iddings and other surprise guests will be performing at Finnigan's Send off Party at Square Roots Records, a new concert venue in downtown Troy. 7:30 p.m. - midnight. $5 BYOB
- Downtown, Canal Public House is hosting a special Song Writers Showcase Featuring: Ridge Higgins, Daniel Dye, Heidi Olive, and Paige Beller. Nice! 8 p.m.- 11 p.m.
- If that show makes you want to keep the night rolling, wheel on over to Jimmie's Ladder 11 to check out an up-and-coming Nashville folk/Americana duo, Roanoke. Special guest Tony Herdman & Friends will kick off the evening around 10 p.m. Doors 9 p.m. $5. Ages 18+
- Need some mid-week stress relief? Blind Bob's has quite mix of Dayton and Detroit heavy metal bands on tap for the evening: Grand Mammoth, Bison Machine, Jeremy Porter & The Tucos, and Dirty Socialites. Warning for the faint of heart: this is going to be a loud head banging rock show! Starts at 10 p.m.

Sadly, this evening is the last Food Truck Rally at Yellow Cab for the season (back next spring!). Making it extra special are the live performances by: Todd the Fox at 6:30 p.m. and The Charlie Tipton Band at 8:00 p.m. Seriously these guys are pros! So enjoy food trucks while you can. The previously mentioned Motel Beds Mind Glitter Release Party starts at 9 p.m. at Blind Bob's. Brat Curse and Moira kick off the evening. This is one of the "don't miss" events of the night, for sure!
Another major event this evening is the Day Con 9 After Party at Vex featuring The Luxury Pushers. The night is filled with some fantastically unique entertainment, including a Cyper Punk Costume Competition, a Fire Performance, a Burlesque show, followed by music by Luxury Pushers, and a late night Dark Alternative dance set. I'm really excited for tonight's show at Jimmie's Ladder 11, featuring Columbus band Sassafraz with special guest TNT. This show is funky, danceable, and features highly skilled musicianship. Heaven for jam band fans out there. Even if you aren't a traditional "jam band" fan, check out this show. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! Music starts at 10pm. $5 cover.
Any Juggalos out there? Head's up! Similiar style rappers, Twizid are in town, along with supporting acts: Blaze, Boondox, Prozak, Wolfpac, and Scum. This collective group of characters will be at Oddbody's Music Room. Doors 6 p.m. Tickets are $30 advance, $35 at the door. 16+
Indie fans, Canal Public House has a great line up for you: Human Cannonball with New Moons (Cincinnati), Me Time, and Brenda (Louisville). This will be the first time Brenda (the band) is performing in Dayton. Always nice to hear new bands! Tweet me and let me know how the show is! $5 cover.
Out of the Dayton area? There is a cool Halloween-themed event this weekend in Springfield, that's worth checking out, especially for old-school horror movie fans. The classic and creepy vampire movie Noseratu will be shown, with the original score performed live by Equinox. Friday and Saturday nights (16th & 17th) at the State Theatre in Springfield. $10 tickets. What a cool idea!!
Another out of town, Halloween-themed music event is happening in Tipp City! (Way to go on all the cool events lately, TC! Keep it up!) This weekend they are hosting a free show right in the heart of downtown, entitled Night of the Rocking Dead. Live music is by Jasper the Colossal and Bribing Senators, along with MC Dustbunny. There is a costume contest too, so get in the zombie spirit! Show starts at 6pm. Again, it's free!
One of the local jam band scene's perennial favorites, Ekoostik Hookah is back in town, with special guests KOA (Lexington) and Magic Jackson. I love to get down and boogie with these bands, and you will too! Where? Oddbody's. $10 pre-sale, $15 at the door. 18+
Jimmie's Ladder 11 is presenting another funky evening with The Vibe. Organizers promise this three-piece powerhouse "will melt your face with mind-blowing original and classic psychedelic, fusion jazz, and rock." Opening the night is the Kevin Dumont Experiment, which is comprised of pros from all over the state of Ohio. Doors 9 p.m. $3 cover.
Whose a White Stripes fan out there? Get over to South Park Tavern to check out Paleface. WS is the closest comparison I can come up with, but they definitely have their own lovable, quirky flair. This 2-piece from North Carolina has a lot of local love, and you'll see why! They start at 10 p.m., followed by new local band The Zygotes. Very nice! $6 cover.
A tribute band extravaganza can be found at Blind Bob's this evening, featuring: Songs for the Deaf (Queens of The Stoneage Tribute), Back Stabbath (Black Sabbath Tribute), Hell Yes Goddamnit (Alkaline Trio Tribute). I know there are some dudes out there absolutely loving this concept. Have fun and rock on! Music starts at 10 p.m.
Out in the Fairborn / Yellow Springs area there are a few shows to choose from!
- Glostik Willy, a jam band with a heavier edge, are performing with The Bath Salt Zombies. The Zombies are coming all the way from central Florida! They have a really unique sound, so make sure you check them out at One Eyed Jacks.
- Hard rock fans in the area, check out the debut performance of Dayton hard rock/alternative metal band,Left in the Dark (LITD), featuring music from their first full-length album, Shadowglass at WO Wrights. Far from Eden and Mayfly will also be performing. $7 DoS. 18+
If you're on the completely opposite end of town, out in Richmond, pop by the E Street Pub for hard rock bands Shotgun Surprise and Epistone. These guys know how to rock it out and are loved by the locals!
Sunday, October 18th
There are some Sunday Funday options for y'all! Tumbleweed is hosting a CD release party for Chris Yakopcic, whose performing from 2-4 p.m., followed by The SoulFixers for 4-6 p.m. Great option for people who can't get out to late night weekend shows!
Fifth Street Brew Pub is also hosting an early afternoon show with Charlie and Judy at 4:30 p.m. They are an accordion and guitar duo from Texas playing an eclectic mix of Cowboy, Old Country, Folk, Funny Originals, a mix of the Classics, and some Yodeling to boot! (Weather permitting)
Last but certainly not least, we have a moral imperative to celebrate Back to the Future Day! The day Marty originally ascended to in the classic 80's movie. In honor of this day, you will find music, games, costume contest and more at Yellow Cab! Rockabilly favorites, Cherry Lee & The Hot Rod Hounds will be performing. Event starts at 7:28 p.m. and has a $5 cover.
