June's First Friday marks the first ever Dayton Podfest, presented by The Gem City Podcast, of which I'm proudly a co-host. This event, the brainchild of fellow host Izzy Rock, features live podcasts from five Dayton-based podcasts including Completely Straight, Bottom of the Bottle, Fresh Dope, The Learning Leader Show, and of course the Gem City Podcast.

The festivities, which include local beer on tap and   food trucks, takes place at the "Old" Yellow Cab Building downtown.  Doors open at Friday June 3rd at 6 p.m., with live podcasts from 7-10:30 p.m. Live music from Tino , Grenades!?, Nightbeast, and Team Void starting at 11pm. Admission is just $5 at the door.

Dayton Podfest hopes to showcase some of the podcasts that we have right here in the city.  The goal is to inspire a community of people that love the art and talent that we have in Dayton, and to raise awareness of our own local podcasts. We'd love to have you at this truly one-of-a-kind event!

While you're enjoying music and sunshine this First Friday, make sure you check out Art in the City, a downtown art extravaganza that is spread throughout the city! For more details click here.

Enjoy the beautiful weather outside at Riverscape Metro Park with free bluegrass music from Bigfoot Yancey and Al Scorch and the Country Soul Ensemble as part of the Pickin' in the Park music series. Plus there will be plenty of food trucks, craft beer, and fun! 6-10 p.m.

Oddbody's Music Room presents popular gangsta punk band (Hed)Pe, with special guests The Veer Union, First Decree, KNOXX, and Godz of Kaos. Doors 7 p.m. Show 7:30 p.m. $20 at the door. Ages 18+.

In the Oregon District, get your drinkin' on with the fun folks at Tumbleweed Connection with wine tasting with Michelle from 5-7:30 p.m., and then live music from Eric Jerardi starting at 9:30 p.m. Take a stroll to the balcony and soak up the summer air while you're there!

An awesome show is going down at Oregon Express this evening with Americana / rock bands Old News, The Boxcar Suite, and songwriter Charlie Jackson. So much talent. You are sure to enjoy this one! 9:30 p.m. show. $5 cover.

Blind Bob's is hosting a Ladyfest Benefit featuring SKRTLot LizardSidekick Complex and Jasper the Colossal. For hard rock fans, this is a no brainer! Ladyfest volunteers will be collecting new socks (women & children's) for the women's shelter at YWCA Dayton. Get in free w/ socks, or $5 cover without.

Jam band fans, boogie on over to Jimmie's Ladder 11 for Electric Orange PeelOsage, and Foto, all hailing from Columbus. These guys know how to make you shake your thang, so make sure you bring your dancin' shoes. Doors at 8 p.m. Show 9 p.m. $5 cover.

If you're really into dancing, and EDM music, check out First Friday with 3DMentional at Therapy Cafe. $5 Admission at the Door for 5 DJs spinning from 9 p.m.-3 a.m.

Out in the burbs? There is still fun to be had!

The Transylvania Hellhounds, Far From Eden, 7L9V9LS and World Of Why are going to rock Oscar's in Vandalia. $5 at the door. Music starts at 9 p.m.

The talented trio of Ryan Judy, Brian Spirk, and John Lardinois, known as the

Grill in Yellow Springs, starting at 9:30 p.m. They are so great! And best part: no cover!

South of town, check out local blues swamp rock band The Magic Lightnin' Boys at JD Legends in Franklin. Show at 8 p.m.

Middletown is rockin' this evening with Bob Dellaposta hosting an Open Jam in the Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area downtown starting at 8 p.m. Also in town, Vice Tricks from Louisville, Kentucky invades The Old Crow Bar with their psychobilly awesomeness, along with The Loveless, Saint Pickle, and Barstool Brown & the Barstools. $5 for ages 21+. $8 for ages 18-20.

Saturday, June 4

The 8th edition of Ye Olde Yellow Cabaret is happening once again at The Old Yellow Cab Building. The theme is fairies, pixies, gypsies and friends. Just my style! Live music is performed by  Curse of Cassandra and Mayan Ruins and DJ V-RAL. There is also belly dancing, cirque, burlesque, firedancing, hooping, tarot readings, henna, and more! Come hungry because there will be food trucks and vending too. Doors 6:30 p.m. Advance tickets $15. Day of show $20.

The Dayton Gay Men's Chorus continues the telling of their stories of unity and acceptance for the entire community, through the majestic art of men's voices. Then witness the power of the voice as the DGMC is joined on stage by the Louisville Gay Men's Chorus, placing nearly 70 male voices on stage at once! Show 8 p.m. at the Victoria Theatre. Tickets start at $22.

Oregon Express is the location of GoodnightGoodnight's tour kick off with special guests Echo Mecca and Crosley Court. This is going to be a great rock show! Music starts at 10:30 p.m. 21+ $5 cover.

Cherry Lee and the Hot Rod Hounds, a local rockabilly group, is going to be workin' the stage at Tumbleweed Connection. If you're looking for a fun night out, this is a pretty sweet option!

The Soil and the Sun (from Grand Rapids), with special guests Keeps (from Nashville) and Daytonian M. Ross Perkins are sharing the stage Blind Bob's this evening. Hearing great things about all these acts, so stop by and let me know what you think! $5 Advance Tickets, $8 At Door. Doors open at 8:30 p.m., 9 p.m. show. 18+

Gin-soaked Angels and Black Betty White are gearing up for a great summah at  Jimmie's Ladder 11. They are back in action, and ready to knock your socks off! Show starts at 10 p.m. $5 cover, ages 18+.

Outside of Dayton, you can catch McGuff and the Dumpster Fires perform a free show at Peach's this evening, starting at 10 p.m. Ages 18+. West of town, New Machine and Shotgun Surprise will be at E Street Pub in Richmond, Indiana. 8 p.m.

Taffy's in Eaton has teamed up with local band Achilles Tenderloin, to present TAFFY's Midwest Epic Open Mic Showcase™. Performers include Stephanie Spanja, Tony's Hotel  (Janet Ogg and Jennifer Taylor), Steve Makofka, Ridge Higgins, Zane Gerlach, Cory Glisson, Christian Chism, and CL James. They always do an incredible job with these showcases, so if you're wanting to check out several new acts, head over for this show from 7 p.m.-midnight. All ages, no cover.

Monday, June 6

Dave Zup starts his month long Monday night residency at Jimmie's Ladder 11. For the first week, the special opening act is Dayton's own Good English. No cover. Music starts at 10 p.m.

Wednesday, June 8

Barenaked Ladies are on their Last Summer on Earth Tour featuring special guests OMD and Howard Jones. The tour include a stop at the Rose Music Center in Huber Heights. Every ticket purchased will come with a digital copy of the forth-coming live album BNL Rocks Red Rocks plus an instant download of "ODDS ARE (live)". Doors 6 p.m. Show 7 p.m. Tickets include parking and start at $23.50 and up. For more information, click here.

Downtown, Therapy Cafe hosts Family Jam Productions weekly Weekly Wednesday Family Dinner Jam. This ongoing weekly event is hosted by Marcus Cornwell of The Vibe and Willy Clark of The Willy Clark Band. It is a plug and play jam and all are welcome, including visual artists. Easels are provided. Free dinner is also served, while it lasts. YUM! Doors are at 8 p.m., dinner starts at 8:30 p.m., and music begins at 9 p.m. All ages! This is a completely free event!
