Figuring out what to do to celebrate New Year's Eve can be one daunting task! No worries, my friends. Your Dayton Music Insider has the run down on where to see live music this holiday weekend.
Thursday, December 31st (New Year's Eve)
Ready to rock? Downtown you’ll find local jam/improv band Subterranean at The Trolley Stop. Affectionately referred to as “SubT” by local fans, this up-and-coming group never fails to please the late night party crowd. Members of this four-piece are strong on their own, and together, they are dynamite! Fans are in for a real treat as this is a 3-set show! Music starts at 9:30 p.m. Cost: $10. Includes a champagne toast!
The rest of the hard-core jam band fans will surely be over at Oddbody's Music Room with Glostik Willy, Yosemite , and the Bath Salt Zombies . All bands are performing two sets this evening, so music starts early. This is going to be a full night of rock'n'roll mayhem, in one of the best sounding rooms in the area. Doors and Music at 7 p.m. $10 18+
During 2015 music fans have celebrated the enduring 50 year legacy of the Grateful Dead, and this New Year’s Eve, the party continues! Local super group and GD tribute band The Great Northern String Band is set to perform fan favorites all evening at Jimmie’s Ladder 11. Tim Prichard from the Boxcar Suite is kicking off the evening with a special solo acoustic set starting at 10 p.m. on Dec. 31. If you enjoyed The Last Waltz tribute over Thanksgiving, this evening features many of the same musicians. Enjoy! Cost: $5 at door.
Hard rock and metal fans, head over to the New Years Eve Head Banger Ball at Canal Public House. They have put together a Heavy Metal Showdown featuring: Forces of Nature, Dark Soul, Engraved Darkness, and Avareous. $5 at the door. Doors 8 p.m. Music starts at 10 p.m. 18+
Feeling the Blues this holiday? Get your fill with Doug Hart's New Year's Eve Bash at Tumbleweed Connection. It's always a party in there, and Doug Hart knows how to play the room perfectly. Show 9 p.m.
Last but not least, in my hometown of Brookville, Evil Eye Gypsy and Todd the Fox are throwing it down at O'Riley's Tavern. Making Brookville cool! I love it! No excuses that there is nothing to do, friends!
Friday January 1st (New Year's Day)
The party doesn't stop! The talented Mr John Mullins (formerly of ekoostik hookah) will be playing up Canal Public House with his band, and special guests Ol' Dirty Strangers (Zanesville). This will be a fun night of music for those of you ragin' through the New Year! $8 at the door. Doors 8pm. Music 10 p.m. 18+
Join the cool kids over at Blind Bob's this evening for a great evening of live music with McGuff and the Dumpster Fires, Ben Stalets (Toledo) and Scarecrow Sideshow. I'm intrigued by these bands, especially the Americana stylings of Ben Stalets. Show 9pm.
Saturday January 2nd
Funky, funky, funky times can be found at The Trolley Stop with The Charles Walker Band (Milwaukee). Want to get your groove on old-school style? This is it! Yeah!
Hard rock fans, Rockstar Pro Arena is hosting the uber popular metal band Denihilist's EP release and live music video shoot tonight! Additional support from bands: Eternal Void, Demolisher, Shores of Elysium, Dead Friends, and Plagues. $10 presale. No re-etnry, or outside food/drink.

Love beer and music? Who doesn't? Head over to Trolley Stop to sample and learn about nine different craft beers and help choose which of them will be placed on the Trolley's taps during the Monthly Beer Tasting. Then stay to enjoy a little pickin' and grinnin' with the Old Time Acoustic Jam with Rick Good and Ben Cooper.
