THURSDAY
So let's get down to business... If you can start your weekend early, this is a great time to do so. Thursday is the last "SubT Thursday" of the winter season. What's a SubT Thursday? One of Dayton's best local bands, Subterranean (affectionately called "SubT" by fans), has been playing at Oregon Express cover-free on Thursdays throughout the winter. One of the ways I kept warm! If you haven't heard them, do yourself a favor and stop by. Music starts at 10 p.m. Even it you pop in for an hour, it will be well worth the extra cup of coffee in the morning!
FRIDAY
Friday night is serving up an eclectic mix of music to choose from... Ready to let loose and dance to feel-good music? Head over to Oddbody's for the əkoostik hookah show, an ever-popular and energetic jam band from Columbus. If you're a fan of Umphrey's McGee, you will get a kick out of the opening act, Glostik Willy, who takes jam band music to the metal edge. Tickets are $15 DoS.
Oregon Express is presenting a real interesting mix of tribute bands: Wandering Eye, a Ween tribute band from Nashville, and Take Back the Power , an all-girl Rage Against the Machine tribute band. Now that is quite the mix! Blind Bob's is always a solid bet on the weekends. Swimming with Sharks, The Wildskins , The New Old Fashioned and BJSR are putting together a rock/pop/country show, starting at 9 p.m. Canal Public House is hosting folk band Year of the Buffalo, with opener Grayson David Schick. They are compared to Mumford & Sons and The Civil Wars. If you enjoyed the Gentleman of the Road show, I have a feeling you might like this one.
Outside the immediate Dayton area Friday night? Not a problem. The Emporium in Yellow Springs has a wonderful show and wine tasting planned from 7-10 p.m., featuring folkadelic rock by Nasty Bingo and special guest Brian Spirk, the mandolinist from The Repeating Arms and Sawgrass. Up for more? Indie rock band Babbling April is rockin' out Peach's for the late night crowd. If you're south of town, or just interested in the harder rock scene, check out some old friends of mine, Shotgun Surprise at Old Crow Bar in Middletown.

SATURDAY
If Saturday night is the only night you have a babysitter, you're in luck too! The Old "Yellow" Cab Building is famed for presenting some of the most cutting edge live entertainment downtown. The "Ye Olde Yellow Cabaret IV" sounds just like that type of ticket. Definitely for steampunk fans, and certainly for curiosity seekers, this event promises pirate music, belly dancers, fire spinners, and more! Sounds intriguing!
Canal Public House is having a great deal, four bands for $5, which includes Gild the Lily , A Sides/B Sides , OldNews and Sam at Eleven . These are some newer bands I need give a listen to! If the əkoostik hookah show on Friday got you fired up to see more jam bands, try out Middletown's Old Crow Bar, for The Disco Ball, featuring some great regional talent: Glostik Willy, Blue Moon Soup , Yosemight, Eyeris Wide . I'm hearing a killer light show is in store!
Blues fans or those in the Preble County area, Taffy's of Eaton is hosting Bob Dellaposta's 7th Blues Showcase. For the rockabilly fans in the area, Yellow Springs will be worth the trip to see Cherry Lee & The Hot Rod Hounds at Peach's. And lastly, if you are north of town, the Music in Bloom event features three bands, Subterranean , Black Betty White and The Great Wide Open , along with multiple craft vendors. The event is being held at the Holland Theatre in Bellefontaine. Music starts at 5pm and tickets are $15 DoS.
